so the lap belt mounts should be positioned as such so the belt is in straight line across your pelvis?Originally posted by hrd View PostAlso, factory lower points a generally too far back for correct mounting of lap belts in a 4pt harness. The problem with that is tightening the shoulder straps results in the lap belt riding up over your abdomen instead of staying over your pelvis, greatly increasing the risk of internal injuries if you crash.
I never used my harness in my 180SX track car because there were no suitable mounting points. I figured the stock lap sash is far better than a poorly fitted harness.

the lap belt should be over the bony structure of your pelvis/hips where the lap belt sits in a normal lap-sash seatbelt. To achieve that with a 4pt harness, the lap anchorages need to be almost straight down - CAMS recommended angle for those straps is 5-15deg behind vertical. With a 4pt harness, that's the only way to prevent the lap belt from being pulled up over your stomach when you tighten the shoulder straps. Their acceptable range is up to 45deg, which is more like what you end up with using the lower factory seatbelt mounts, but in my experience you can't keep a 4pt lap belt in the correct location when the shoulder straps are tightened when the angle of the lap belt is anything like that large - it just gets pulled up too high by the shoulder straps. That increases the risk of internal injuries and/or submaringing in a frontal impact.Originally posted by spiller View Postso the lap belt mounts should be positioned as such so the belt is in straight line across your pelvis?

Yes and I have been pushing my luck using a 2" 4 point in the race car for far too long. Must order a 5 point before it goes out again.Originally posted by hrd View Postthe lap belt should be over the bony structure of your pelvis/hips where the lap belt sits in a normal lap-sash seatbelt. I get what you mean, makes good sense. I use a Schroth ASM 4 point harness although hopefully I never have to find out how effective it is in the event of an incident. I think Ill just use some load spreaders for the lap belt anchors anyway when I finally get a cage in the car.Originally posted by hrd View Postthe lap belt should be over the bony structure of your pelvis/hips where the lap belt sits in a normal lap-sash seatbelt. Seatbelt mounting plates should be available from any decent race shop in the CAMS specified size. I have the same sort of ASM belt as Spiller, they seem to be a good thing.Richard's DatsunZ lappin LakesidZ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47OSh...&feature=g-upl

That's right but it has no problems attempting to hold you by your nuts and ripping sack. 6-point FTW.Originally posted by da9jeff View PostFWIW, the crutch strap isn't designed to hold you by your balls in a crash, its only meant to hold the rest of the harness down over your torso.Originally posted by piss98I wish Kochie would get blown out to sea and never found, in fact most of those dumb cunts standing in the rain telling people not to stand in the rain need to get fucked. Yeah, 4 pt harness is pointless as mentioned. Been there tried that. Need the crotch strap as mentioned to hold lap lap belt down when shoulder harness nipped up. Don't fack about. Get a 3" wide 5 or 6 point harness. Watched my mate roll his speedway car years ago and I still remember the bruising from the old 2" harness was pretty nasty a day or two later.
