So what's your point? That Subaru/Toyota didn't build an MX-5 beater with 350hp? Why would they?
My falcon? I dont own or want a falcon. The 86 keeps getting beaten around circuits by just about everything including the falcon. Isnt the point that it is fast around corners? It is slower than a falcon ecoboost around Wakefield. And the point is that this falcon has a worse power to weight ratio than a 86!! So its not faster because it out muscles it. Its a fucking falcon with taxi suspension and can get faster lap times around Wakefield.

I am not even saying its a bad car. I still like it. I am just pointing out that it lacks more than just straight line go. It also lacks the ability to beat even more under powered taxis around a circuit. Maybe when the 86 driver is getting creamed in the cornering department by a taxi they will feel better knowing they are having a better driving experience?

I am part trolling, but my point is still valid. :D

As a real world insight with something like RE002's and some more camber it will go up the old road as quick as I used to drive the goblin up there with the exception of the top half of the two lane section coming up the hill from the hawkesbury and right at the far end near (old) old sydney town

Except it doesn't, it's around the pace of a GTI and the Focus ST (generally quicker than a GTI and generally not quite as quick as the ST) so quicker than an MX5 but not as quick as a Megane or WRX. Using a bit of a NSW benchmark to get it under 1:10 at Wakefield you'd be looking at about 2-2.5k worth of mods plus a set of decent semi's.

No, thats specifically been called out as not being the point

Both are crazy similar on paper

You are retired. I never criticized the 86 for being slow in a straight line. I criticized it for being slower around corners than a falcon with less power to weight.

Think of the 86 as an excellent starting point. As you throw bits at it the better it responds.

I very much doubt my "11sec" F6 would out lap my turbo 86. And if you had to do say 5 laps back to back it would be well screwed.

I admit I am missing the point. I thought it was to be good at cornering. I guess its all about feeling like its good at it even though its not? Much like an Hyundai Excel feels faster when you fit a 3" exhaust? Am I getting it now?

As I said I would much prefer the 86 over the falcon! I am sure it would be great to modify. Maybe that is the only real point of the car? Yours is going to be fucking awesome. Cant wait to see the results.

Yes it is about the feel. Much like the original MX5. And much like the MX5, with mods it can be made much quicker than more expensive machinery around a track.

looks like ive started a nice debate.

I really like the looks of them, and having owned a 10/10ths car before, i know the enjoyment that people can get out of having them stock. But fuck me...this is PF right? I would expect some people to really getting these things to where it should be power wise. And that may not be 350hp...but from all accounts, it certainly should be a touch more than what it has. Seems (sadly) that the majority of people buying these are just going to sit back and wait for the bolt ons. Kudos to you MZ and Dale for having the balls to jump in.

TBH, i would be very interested in the NA tuning capacity. Just like the original 86, if its maxed out at 200hp atw so be it, but this "aww im gonna put TRD stuff and tyres on it" is not the PF way.

Dale should maybe do an e85 na tune. Could good for some extra horses?

Ok so the EVO and STI that I averaged more than half a second quicker in my slower-than-a-falcon stock BRZ on multiple runs of a ~60sec khana course must be really shit cars then, either that or their drivers were really crap (they weren't) or I am the second coming of Senna ("lol")

I mean, how can this be in a car that is both slow in the straights and slow in the corners?

Ultimately you can spend 5k making an extra 30hp which doesn't change the car much or spend 5k on suspension taking its handling well into supercar territory which has a big impact on driving enjoyment. Does it really surprise you that the sort of people buying a car aimed at the driving enthusiast rather than a performance enthusiast are doing suspension mods rather than power mods?

I think you should look up the term Supercar. I dont think it means what you think it means.

It does, because even though Top Gear, Drive, Motor, Euro and all the other car things do say its a good car (i believe them), they ALL come back and say it needs a bit more power and a bit more torque. What i find MOST surprising, is that only 1 forum member has done it. Obviously the people who WOULD mod a new car/their daily, are just not interested in the car. Which to me is a shame, i think its a great car. But it needs more ponies as stated from all of the sources and opinions that we value.
