Fair point, I was just trying to be succinct and it wasn't the best description. My point is that if you add 30hp you're really not going to notice it after a few weeks without the aid of a stopwatch, lots of money for not much gain. However if you put that same money in the suspension you'll get something absolutely brilliant which you'll enjoy every time you drive it. This is kind of the opposite of a lot of cars (particularly turbo cars, in this pricerangeish stuff like the ST or a Megane) where a little cash on power mods go a long way but that same money on suspension mods aren't going to make as much difference except on the stopwatch as they've already got a high grip focus

It does, because even though Top Gear, Drive, Motor, Euro and all the other car things do say its a good car (i believe them), they ALL come back and say it needs a bit more power and a bit more torque. What i find MOST surprising, is that only 1 forum member has done it. Obviously the people who WOULD mod a new car/their daily, are just not interested in the car. Which to me is a shame, i think its a great car. But it needs more ponies as stated from all of the sources and opinions that we value.
Honestly, thats not what I've read in the reviews. The consistent message I've seen is that they don't need more power but that they could take more power. I think you're also ignoring the fact that it's a brand new car, only a few members have owned it for more than 6 months and it needs some form of forced injection to really make in difference in power which is an avenue many aren't willing to take on a high comp subaru engine. Just what other 6 month old NA cars are people buying and bolting turbos to in great numbers?

How hard is it to understand that it's a fucking fun stock standard car to drive to work every day and take for a strap in some corners every other night?

If you're concerned about how it matches up to other cars around you then you might well look elsewhere. If you have a load of fun on a nice road without anybody else around then it's a great car.

As for not modding, yes I'd love more power but fuck that, it's a few weeks old and has warranty. If I wanted to modify I'd buy something 2nd hand.

Well that was really the point of my first question. Of all places, i would think that we (PF) WOULD have people that would purchase the most eagerly anticipated car in many many years and want to get more out of it.

For the sake of argument, i will no longer debate if it needs more...because i dont even own one. I am just surprised to see only one person giving it a go.

come back in 2.5 years when warranties have run out, or buy one yourself and modify it

Yes because no one has ever modded a car under warranty

you wanted to know why people arent modding them, thats your answer.
lots of people using them as daily's as they are cheap and fun to drive out of the box, shits not fucking rocket science

No, you're asking why people aren't trying to get more power out of it, apparently your view of performance forums is that doing suspension mods is akin to buying a Prius.

Bit of a difference in commitment between a boost tweak and tune on a typical turbo car and strapping a turbo/blower on an unknown quantity 12.5:1 CR n/a engine...

So a mate has just picked up his 86 and is definitely not a car guy. He's loving the car and the way it drives, but we have been discussing run in procedures. Dealer told him not to take it past 4k for the first 1000-1500km's, manual says something similar. Dealer also said not to drive it at the same revs for hours on end (good). I'm afraid that he is babying it heaps, taking it slowly up to 4k, not putting any load on the motor etc.

Does anyone have anything I can point my mate to, preferably specific to 86's, so he can understand how to drive to properly run in his car? I'm sure most of us are of the opinion to rev it out once in a while when under 1000kms. Just need to convince my mate of this too...

                      Thanks

Nah it's mostly right. Just use more throttle to load the engine up in the first 1500 k's odd.

That's the run in procedure in the manual.

It probably doesn't make much of a difference, but I followed it as well.

Does anyone run in engines anymore?????

Take it out of the dealer and drive it the same way you're always going to drive it.

If you give a shit about the engine, then yes you should follow the specified procedure.
