So I went on that drive today, 55 86's and BRZ's. A couple of people got pulled over by cops for speeding.

Lots of older (> 40) couples, lots of people who take their 86 ownership a little too seriously.

Had a drive of my mates GTS manual. Fuck its nice to drive. It only just clicked over 1000kms so couldn't thrash it, but man it feels great on the road. Couple of corners I pushed a little harder and it feels very planted, responsive, blah blah everyone who understands them knows what they are like. I did get caught under 2.5k rpm a couple times, damn, not much torque down there. Felt very lacking, it was my own fault though not being in a low enough gear...

I want one even more now, maybe if I get a new job that pays 50k more and meant I had to drive to work it would make more sense.
I survived the patio flooding catastrophe of 2012.

And in a manual, what can you do with 200hp and 1400kg that you cant do in an auto? put foot flat out and hold a slide? Auto has torque multiplication, it does it effortlessly and a lot more competently.

I'd go with an arbitrary figure of 98 in every 100 drivers would be slower with a manual around a technical section of road due to total clusterfuck of feet going everywhere, mismatched revs, wrong gear, focussing on slowing with a gearbox instead of the big middle pedal etc. What feels boy racer and fast, is often jerky, with sudden movements and changes in weight etc. Auto lets you keep two hands on the wheel and use the brakes for what theyre intended for, and its always in the right gear in the brz/86 for tail out fun when you stomp on it. The manual needs either lots of road speed, or lots of clutch kick to do the same. And the whole point of an 86 is fun at lower road speeds.

My ownership experience taught me one thing, I can have as much fun as a 4wd, tail happy, 6 speed, 300hp 1500kg wagon on ohlins coilovers and R comp tyres at like half the pace with half the required stopping distance and double the margin for error should I run out of talent. Its a flawless and excellent concept when you dont care that a bog stock s13 could probably out run you*.

Noone said the brz or 86 as a manual is worse at slidey fun than an auto, just that the auto is no worse than the manual, with the added benefit of being trivial to dawdle along at 3kph in bumper to bumper traffic.

Also for what its worth, I'd take an auto if I buy one again, simply for the strength over the manual. Auto's are now solidly proven to handle bulk torbo powahs and protect the rods from driveline shock in the brz/86. For my intended uses (highway cruise, traffic, commute, mountain runs, roundabout shenanigans, offramp dorifto) the auto would do everything the manual does.

Not saying auto is better either, just that its no worse as people seem to think. Ive driven em both and thats my take at least.
lol wtf. Your comments scream 'someone that cant drive a manual'.

Why in the fuck would you by a sports car in the first place if you were spending the majority of your time in traffic? Buy a corolla if your gonna spend most of your time in peak hour.
Only thing gayer than buying compromising a sports car in auto because you spend most of your time in traffic is partaking in an all male gang bang.

Only situation that a manual would be inferior, is if the other option was a paddle shift non-slushbox.

And your suggestion than a regular auto is faster around a series of turns than a manual might hold true to someone who has never driven a manual before, but not much more.

        Cliffs: Auto is gaids.

but isn't that what the FT86 is though? a RWD corolla?
great chassis etc etc but it feels priced like it's supposed to stand in and do both jobs

Its still a sports car. Buying an auto because you drive in traffic is pretty lame.

The car is underpowered as is also. Can only imagine the gayness that introducing an auto to that combination would be.

            Just my opinion.

Auto v's manual, it reminds me of when power steering was starting to become popular and everyone who was tough said it wasn't needed and fucked any car it was fitted to. Tried disabling your PS lately and tell me you would rather not have it? manuals will die because cars are quicker and more frugal with a good auto all caused because these things are more important than the perceived need to have exactly the right gear for the corner once a month. The heroes can lament and whinge and moan but the facts are the facts, Joe public wants an auto and if you want a manual in future you will pay for it. I can remember a time when people had to be coerced into buying a car with air con, try doing that now, Honda fitted AC to every car and if you wanted one you had to pay for the AC or don't buy the car.

You can count the number of 'true' sports cars (with an emphasis on handling) that are only offered with a 'slushbox' auto today on one hand, and still have enough fingers left to put in your mum.

I'm wondering why we haven't seen sequential manual gearboxes in road cars yet... surely it's the next step?

These are the most annoying. The ones that wash and wax weekly (probably the car too), have the $1000 paint protection, ever mod under the sun that doesn't actually improve performance etc etc.

Should put the dsg7 in it.

sounds like a good turnout - I probably would've gone but had to work...

I think if your going to get an auto 86 your really missing the point. For nissan GTR or something of its ilk I can see the point but not the 86. The manual is so light and easy to use that if you bought an auto its because your a goofy uncoordinated retard or a poofter. Surely lack of LSD in the auto is enough to dissuade a PF minded buyer, but people are going soft around here these days.

Ive always had a comfy auto daily so my fun weekender can be the most uncomfortable, jerky, loud, hard to operate thing on the road and it wouldn't bother me

You can also count the number of TRUE sports cars for sale on one hand too dickhead.

                            Clubman (all of them).
What else? Every single hypersupercar is an auto I can think off without googling.

Everything is a compromise. Any new ferrari, R35, lamborghini, etc are all auto's. GT-RS porkas are the only thing that springs to mind as a true sports car.

Everything is a compromise for NVH, comfort, road manners, and not dealing with clunky cumbersome manuals.

And for the record, I've never owned a single auto car in the last decade.

A manualised TH400 and ratchet shifter is not an auto. It also lasted two weeks.

And I think you cunts miss the main point I made. Turbos and autos love eachother. Next 86/brz will be auto for that reason alone. Not LSD? Wrecker LSD's will be approximately $6. The amount of these things people will punt off into trees and shit is frightening.
