I think lots of people on car forums bought them, but normal people have barely heard of the things. I'm sick of explaining to family and friends what it is, what it costs, whats so special about it, whats that stupid badge on the front guard supposed to be.....

But it's easier to turbo an 86 than it is to RWD a fiesta.

Figures on sales between the two in Australia? I would not buy the Cruze myself over the 86.

Fiesta still beats it around a race track...

Not all that many mainstream people would be keen to turbo their 86, I can't imagine.

would a fiesta be much fun on a racetrack? Imagine the extra torque would make it a lot faster in the real world, but suspect if might be a bit underwhelming on a track

I've not driven one but if it's anything like my ST then yes. It'll not be as rewarding on the track.

For spirited driving over the mountains (haven't tracked yet) I prefer to be in my mate's supercharged 86. The ST isn't too bad, but the FWD chassis just doesn't feel as rewarding despite being faster.

I've definitely had a slow down in my sales of them in the last few months, but that's not to say they aren't selling.
Sold one to a mate today who is coming out of a EP3.
The new update in May oughtta kick start the buying again.

Update is only dash clusters and a new antenna isn't it?

Pffft, as if any enthusiast would chose a Cruze over an 86. Or a Fiesta for that matter. Both may be faster in a straight line, and maybe around a track, but FWD ruins it.

If I had the spare dosh, I'd happily buy one tomorrow.
                          Back in bloody Perth again...

Would any enthusiast buy a non-turbo 4 cylinder?

Don't know if the BRZ gets it too, but this is the 86 update from May 14 build..

                                GTS gets:
                                • Factory reverse camera
                                • New dash cluster

                                GT gets:
                                • Old GTS cluster with digital speedo

                                Both grades get:
                                • Shark fin antenna
                                • Pegasus White deleted, replaced with Satin White Pearl from current WRX
                                • Thunder Silver deleted, replaced with Ice Silver Metallic from current WRX

Also found out from our stock controller today that Toyota is being tight on supply of these again, probably to create more demand.
Sold a white GTS Manual to a mate yesterday and found out this morning that I can't get him a car at this point until June, which would put it as a new specification (May build).
