I've bought a few new cars, it was the least bullshit sales process I've been through for the lot.

In fact even the bloke there for delivery said "did you need help with bluetooth setup or anything or did you just want to do it all yourself?", so even that part wasn't shit.

Yup. I bought mine via email. Wasn't even a mention of opticoat, extended warranty, or other ming mole related garbage. Rocked up to dealer, and was out the door in under 30 mins.

could be partly why they are selling great here and not so well in the US (plus they get all sorts of fast cars cheap i guess)

They're cheaper here, compared to the rest of the market, than anywhere else in the world.
You can pay more for a Corolla than an 86 GTS here ... in the UK you can almost buy a Cayman for the price of a new GTS!
That's why there are so many on the roads here.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

                What the fuck?

Lol no, it's a conventional auto, the same as every single auto in econoboxes and taxi's in the world.

But yes, the autos drive fucking well. If I bought another, it would be auto as it's kinder to the rods when turbod.

                    Yeah or just do that.

Or not, and not give a fuck, as 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 999999% of the time an auto is faster.

And the other 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% of the time, I'd drive something else.

86 is about not-boring, rather than fast.
This is why it's not so fast.
                      Automatic is boring.
If you want automatic, Hyundai can save you some money by selling you a Veloster.

So Toyota were full of shit when they ran training for dealership staff and said it's the same box (not identical, but based on ISF box with less cogs)?

Cool, good to know the internet is here to correct the manufacturer.

Have you driven the auto? As a person that owns 2 AE86 Corollas both twin cams I am well aware the 86 being not-boring rather than fast. I know the concept of what they are trying to achieve now and back in the AE86 days. The auto is far from boring. I was very surprised and won't be losing sleep that I have just purchased one. It's not as precise as my ISF box but pretty close. I am not taking away from the manual as if it were up to me and not my wife I would have gone with it but the auto is certainly not a step back.

Under steer is hitting the wall with your front end. Over steer is hitting the wall with your tail end. Horsepower if how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how much of the wall you take with you after you hit it.
