Good choice I've been really impressed with mine. At speed, out on a crappy country road they are really quite special.

Haven't had enough reason to get rid of the shockworks yet other wise I'd have tried the mca's by now

Did a 1.42.6 on ad08r at winton a few weeks back, still plenty more in it I reckon

Took a 2014 Toyota 86 GTS for a test drive a couple weeks back. Had the full Aero kit and really changed the look of it. Considering you guys have had one for a while, are they ok for a daily drive car?

The $43,500 price tag is a bit off putting for such low power, but a second hand one around $30,000 then $8,000 for the turbo kit should fix that. Im just not sure on driving one for 2 hours a day and still having a lower back.

The other option was an S15/180sx but they need to be low to look decent and being 6 foot tall, i couldnt see myself enjoying getting out of it...

Mine's passed 30000km and going great. Nopics drives it daily but we've both taken it on interstate road trips comfortably.

I find the seat very comfortable, but adjustment is minimal (in the GT anyway, I think it's the same) so you'd need to be sure before buying I suppose. Generally for daily driving it has been great - no problems, great fuel economy, comfortable ride, just a little harder to get in/out than most cars. If doing a lot of hours in it I'd probably block the induction noise in the cabin. I'm also surprised at the extremely even tyre wear regardless of ones aggression through the corners.

Personally, fuck paying $43.5k for one. I don't put much value in what the GTS gets you, and the new GT cost me $34k drive away over 12mth ago. It's a fair $35k car, it's not $43k+ worth IMO.

I don't have any issues daily driving, I'd much rather be daily driving something interesting to drive than your standard shopping trolley. I do think the aero kit looks completely arse though

                  Go home you dufus!
Agree on the aero kit, the very definition of "waste of money".

Going to say something maybe a bit controversial ... daily driving a lowered & stiffened 86 I'm not so sure about. A country drive it's great, but getting stuck reversing up a slightly wonky driveway 'cos only 2 wheels are touching the ground; unsure if that works if you do it daily. I guess this depends on the roads you're using daily?

But that's a modded car. The seats in the GTS are worth paying more for, they're really comfy. And the stereo/satnav has some value for me. $43.5k is paying way too much for an ugly bodykit, it should cost under $40k on the road for a proper-gearbox GTS.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

There pretty much are no options, apart from that fugly body kit & the gearbox for amputees.

Next time you borrow it turn the little knob on the coil overs in the direction that says 'soft'.

This would be an unwanted admission!
Such knowledge might have been useful beforehand ... nah, who'm I kidding, she loved it & the rock-hard suspension made no difference to the fact she wants one.

My sti would be always have the inside rear up in the air when going up certain driveways. Put 90K on it no problem. The 86 scrapes out of the drive way at home and work (and it not even lowered much). Biggest drama I find is it so low in terms of seating so most daily driving gets done in a pajero. I also seem way may relaxed in a big 4wd too. So 86 for me hasn't been as practical as the sti. Still very fun car to drive.

Borrowed 86 would scrape exhaust-pipe on certain humps; but front & rear bumper had less scraping problems on nasty driveways than a Corolla or Focus or whatever.
Dunno if I could stomach a Pajero as acceptable for daily-driving compared to an 86 though; the cost of the sea-sickness tablets would do me in, I suspect.

You'd be a muppet to pay 40+ grand for one. I bought mine brand new for less than 31 in January.

They are harder to get into and out of being low and with longer doors, you get used to it.

Do you guys with coilovers find them to be noisy at all? I'm considering the MCA setup, but clunking suspension gives me the shits.
