Nah, no noise from the mca's. They're proper suspension, not Taiwanese copy crap.

the parts (red+blue at least) are from OS - tawian or china probably, but they're assembled locally (last i checked, at least) entirely, every component properly inspected etc.Originally posted by IMOA View PostNah, no noise from the mca's. They're proper suspension, not Taiwanese copy crap.

If you don't like clunks go the coilovers that use the factory rubber strut tops. KW or bilstein would be excellent options.Originally posted by gat5rodeo View PostYou'd be a muppet to pay 40+ grand for one. I bought mine brand new for less than 31 in January.
They are harder to get into and out of being low and with longer doors, you get used to it.
Do you guys with coilovers find them to be noisy at all? I'm considering the MCA setup, but clunking suspension gives me the shits.

Internals of the reds (ie shim stack) are from overseas but not from south east Asia.Originally posted by flinchy View Postthe parts (red+blue at least) are from OS - tawian or china probably, but they're assembled locally (last i checked, at least) entirely, every component properly inspected etc.

I find the 86 plenty comfortable (more so than my previous Golf R), reckon its all about the driving/seating postion. Drove to adelaide last year and was fine. Drove to winton and back after doing ~65 laps, again felt fine.
Haven't had anyone complain about the ride, just the getting in/out and tyre noise once you hit coarse country highways. AD08(R) and fuck all sound deadening = noisy
+1 to aero kit looking like arse and not needing any of the crap in a GTS
You done anything else to it Greg? Any chance of Goblin mk2?Originally posted by IMOA View PostNext time you borrow it turn the little knob on the coil overs in the direction that says 'soft'.

Not saying i would get the Aero kit, just commenting on the fact that it changed the look of one compared to the standard one.
If i was to get a kit, it would have to be the AimGain widebody, and the Buddy club tail lights.

In saying that, i would make it go faster before it looked faster. Im thinking turbo kit on 6 psi so i dont melt the engine.

im going to go against the grain and say that teh seats arent great - comfy at first but for longer drives lack good lumbar support and that stupid headrest is too far forward stopping you from resting your upper back into the seat. I can get reasonably comfortable if i sit my ass right into the back of the seat and sit upright but i still wouldnt rate them as being good by any means.
Now that we're into the cold mornings its really apparent how timing/octane limited the factory tune is, the car runs so much better and with a lot more punch now, far more difference than in other n/a engines ive driven

There's a good thread on FT86 about tuning with the OFT for Australian fuel and conditions.

Nah, nothing else, will get some wheels eventually and keep thinking about doing a few tweaks to the engine (flash, header, longer runners) but I probably won't get round to it. No chance of goblin 2, it's a cheap, fun car I can drive when I'm in australia, if I want something more I'll buy a cayman s.Originally posted by blue_s15 View PostYou done anything else to it Greg? Thanks, interesting thread. Confirms what i thought - this engine is gagging for better fuel even than 98Originally posted by gat5rodeo View PostThere's a good thread on FT86 about tuning with the OFT for Australian fuel and conditions.

It actually works better. The US tunes are shit, so you need a laptop you can log, review, edit and flash with ... not just a glorified phone.Originally posted by blue_s15 View PostDon't need some yum cha tablet. Tactrix cable and current version of ecuflash works fine.Happy Christmas

not sure who else works with them nowOriginally posted by IMOA View PostWhy do you think that? I always thought that other tuner guy (name started with a V? Forgotten it now) was a complete tool but shiv seems alright?
adrian@vishnu is the aussie guy (at least for BMW's).. rombinhood is the OFT initial dev. Adrian is a dickhead.
he poorly tuned+broke a ton of evos back in the day, ditched that platform:
came over to BMW N54, hacked up a haltech (but don't tell them that, you'll get them screaming down your throat), poorly tuned a lot of cars, released a single turbo kit via FFTEC (FFTEC kit still exists, beautiful hardware) with poor tuning... has blown more motors with his 'procede' piggy than cobb+JB4+all other tunes combined. Way overpriced too, the JB4 was properly built and half the price, but don't say that on e90post, blinded fanboys will troll the shit out of you:
rombinhood appears saying he'd release free open-source tuning to the community... shiv appears and it's suddenly 'never was planned on being open source' rebadges it as 'open flash' sells it for more than you can find a (superior) cobb half the time...:
Bimmerboost members get up in arms more than bimmerpost doormats, competing truly open-source flash software released within a few weeks able to be used on a laptop, just developing slower now due to actually being free.
and here we are, he's 99% ditched the BMW platform for the toyobaru platform... he seems all well and good for a couple of years, then the cracks show. 2/10 customer service too.
i'm sure the tunes won't be bad, as they're all custom from what tables you can see on the tablet.. just don't use the OTS tunes, they're absolute trash, at least for BMW's.. Just don't like the company.
