Personally I wouldn't get a GTS. My brother has a GT and reckons it's great as a daily. As mentioned, the only performance upgrade is the brakes, but they really aren't that much bigger. If you want bigger brakes put some STi ones on, because you're probably going to be putting aftermarket wheels on anyway. As mentioned, the 6k buys far more/better aftermarket gear than what you get with a GTS.

The stock 17" wheels look remarkably less shit once you put decent, wider rubber on them

I thought the same, but then I found out how much the aftermarket charges for in-dash SatNav!Originally posted by Bren View PostAs mentioned, the 6k buys far more/better aftermarket gear than what you get with a GTS.Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Actually 6k won't get you all those things if you're buying decent quality but at any rate the car is better with those things and the extra factory fruit, having one does not preclude getting the other.Originally posted by Bren View PostEh, in-dash SatNav doesn't bother me. Never had a car with it. $6k can get a set of wheels and tyres, some MCA coilovers, and STi brakes. The car will perform much better with those additions rather than SatNav, heated seats and a digital speedo.

You'll come damn close. Brakes ~$1k, MCA Blue coilovers $1550, wheels as an example, Enkei RPF1 17x9 $1350, and, again as an example, Kumho KU36 tyres for ~$800. Thats about $4700. Leaves $1300 for different brakes, tyres or wheels, or keep the same as I have listed and get some MCA Red coilovers.Originally posted by IMOA View PostActually 6k won't get you all those things if you're buying decent quality but at any rate the car is better with those things and the extra factory fruit, having one does not preclude getting the other.
Ps, I don't know exactly how much brakes will be, but even if they're 2k it's under the 6k difference.

Don't forget that the GTS is more desirable than the GT on the used market; which is relevant unless you're planning on keeping the car 10yrs or whatever (frankly I think I probably would be keeping it forever, but then it'd be a Nopix Car if "I" got one so my usage is a bit different to you - I'm imposing what I'd want onto a purchase which would actually be what the nopix would wantOriginally posted by Bren View PostYou'll come damn close. Mate you dreaming if you think you'll be doing an STi Brembo conversion for under 2K let alone 2.5KOriginally posted by Bren View PostYou'll come damn close. For a start you'll need 2008+ Calipers as the 2002-2007 Rears won't bolt on. (about $1400-1600 for a good late model used set)
Then you'll want to put a seal kit thru all four (about $150)
Then you'll need a second set of bleeders as the calipers (front) will be move from side to side and original bleeder will be on the bottom (about $30)
Optional braided lines (about $250 for four)
4 new rotors (any where from $600 - $1200 for all four and that's nothing special)
4 decent pads (around $500)
Some good brake fluid (about $60)
So if take the cheapest options above: $2740
Go top end and it's: $3790
That doesn't take any workshop labour into account.
I'd go as far as say if you can find me a set of STi Brembo's with good life left in rotors and pads for $1K I've give you $200 for your trouble
It's not going to happen.

Fair enough, but have a look at the last line of my post. I actually said that I don't know how much they go for. I thought I read somewhere on this forum that you could get they brakes for around $1k, but I must have been wrong.
So going by your cheapest option above, you can do the things I listed for for $6440. And I would assume most people on this forum could do the brake upgrade without taking it to a workshop. That's still not a bad list of upgrades for about the price difference between GT and GTS.
