That's still with the cheapest MCA coilovers available, bushes that can't cope with the increased grip, no wheel alignment, no way of adjusting camber in the rear and very much cheap and cheerful rubber. It's the difference between modding on the internet and modding in the real world, things cost more when you actually have to do it.

From what I have heard the mca blues perform very well for the price, and the ku36 is a massive step up from standard offerings. Sure you can spend more on coilovers and tyres, but what I have listed will make a huge improvement over standard, for about the price difference of GT and GTS, which is what was being discussed. Someone modifying their 86 on a modest budget would be very happy with the results that the above mentioned will give.Originally posted by IMOA View PostThat's still with the cheapest MCA coilovers available, bushes that can't cope with the increased grip, no wheel alignment, no way of adjusting camber in the rear and very much cheap and cheerful rubber. Tyres. Why fuck around with ku36 whe you get Bridgestone re070s for 320 ish. So much grip. Actually I have a set of kumho semi slicks unused in the garage (paid $250 ea), such is the grip level on the re's.
I reckon a good bargain basement brake upgrade for the GT would just the wrx 4 pot fronts with the 290mm rotors. Should be able to that for about $800 with brand new discs and a good set of pads.

Fark the KU36 and bridgestones! I got a set of 235/40/18 AD08R's for under $1300. The smaller sizes would no doubt be cheaper again, just gotta shop around.
I've had a few people tell me I should have just done the STI brakes instead of my D2's because they're "only" $1k. It's amusing when people realise the real cost of the setup. And why does no one ever factor in labour or ancillary costs?

2dr, affordable, light on fuel, available in autotragic - it's more nopixable than a Paseo!Originally posted by Bren View PostThat's true, but if I were getting one it would be a keeper for me as well. If your nopix can be convinced that she wants one, I envy you!!
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Meh, like I said, my list was upgrades that can be done on a modest budget that will great improve the car. Sure better tyres are available, but my brother has a set of ku36s on his 86 and loves them. Sure the re070s are a better tyre, but the Kumhos are fine for $200 each.Originally posted by MZ21 View PostTyres. Why fuck around with ku36 whe you get Bridgestone re070s for 320 ish. So much grip. I was actually going to ask if there's a WRX brake upgrade that would be available cheaper. That sounds like a really good upgrade for not a lot of money.
Forg, hahaha, not sure if more nopixable than a Paseo is all that good :p
blue_s15, people who need to pay for labour factor in labour costs, people who don't need it don't. Simple.

The 86 auto with flappy paddles isn't that bad. Had it a couple of times when upgraded by Hertz.Originally posted by Forg View Post2dr, affordable, light on fuel, available in autotragic - it's more nopixable than a Paseo!

Went for a drive with my mate to a mutual friends place just outside of Glenrowan on Sunday via the Melba Hwy in a 86 GTS....NVH of this car leaves alot to be desired the quality is just crap. Road & engine noise into the cabin is too intrusive so long trips are a pain. Sure great driving postiion but the ambienace is crap.
Rev the engine past 4000rpm and it's harsh but this is where most of the power is...but going the Melba rather than Hume left the car wanting with the lack of power especially on the few climbs or overtaking on B roads
Mods to this car were only tyres Michelin pilot Sport somethings

NVH aside the engine was worse....again to get the best out of the motor you had to rev it but the engine sounded harsh and thrashy when you did. Again this car is crying out for more power given the sweet chassis and was nicer now with the better rubberOriginally posted by gat5rodeo View PostWho would have thought that a Benz driver would complain about NVH in a cheap sports cars. I for one am shocked.
Comapred to similarly priced cars the quality is crap
