At wakefield 1:09 is about where 86's with those mods and that standard of driver are. Griffon would be more like a 1:02 at wakefield, to give an australian perspective it's 1.2 seconds faster than mark berry when he went to Tsukuba at a time when mark was doing consistent 1:02's at wakefield.

I was replying to mph, who asked about an equivalent time at Wakefield in regards to the pictured 86 with brake and suspension mods on R specs.

Neil Bates apparently did a 1:08.7 with similar brakes and suspension but the car was stripped & caged. Don't know what tyres he ran but suspect R specs. The NZ TR86 race cars run very similar specs but they appear to run slicks.

        got it got it.

So. I'm selling my Civic next month, and an 86 is on the short list for a new daily.

Will i miss my steering wheel volume controls?

I went from a Golf R to an 86 and don't miss any of the mod cons but 5 other people will probably say they're a slow piece of shit and you should buy something else. If it was purely an a-b daily, I'd agree with them.

Did a 1:39.6462 at Winton yesterday but fucked a tyre in the process so ended the day too early. Was a fairly average bit of driving so heaps more time in it but fuck I hate driving up the hume so NFI when I'll have another crack, they should move the track 150km closer to Melbourne.

No. You might miss the boot space and the back seats. I haven't yet seen a care with more useless back seats than my 86, and the boot space is absolutely fucking horrible. Plenty of people will argue that with the useless back seats folded flat there's plenty of room, but the big issue is height and the size/shape of the opening. I went and bought a flat pack office chair a while back and ended up having to lay the passenger seat back and chuck the box in the passenger seat just because the size of the box wouldn't allow me to put it in the boot. There was enough room for it in the boot, just impossible to actually put it there.

Those are the real limitations for a daily driver, not lack of power or comfort.

So ive had my 86GTS for over a week now and still loving it. Any recommended forums out there dedicated to these things?

Tried 86forums.com.au about 2 weeks ago and still waiting for confirmation email...

Also, if anyone is having doubts about buying one, ill happily take you for a drive. So glad i bought a brand new one, as its my first ever new car. Considering my last car was a 94 corolla, it doesnt feel as slow as everyone makes them out to be.

ft86club.com/forums/ - mainly US based, but probably the biggest one

https://www.facebook.com/groups/QLD.86.BRZ.Owners.Club/ - lots of young cunts. They do organise regular happy laps sessions though

https://www.facebook.com/groups/86driversclub/ - a real club, fairly motorsport biased

If the forums and facebook groups were to be followed you'd need splitters, GT wings and 10" wide wheels with 7deg camber....

Problem with one make forums is their full of people justifying their purchase and vendors trying to sell bullshit products like intakes that give you 1kw increases.

Yep pretty good times. But you'd struggle to find a better R spec tyre than Hankook Z221.
How much power do you get with E85 tune and zorst on these things?

This was just posted up yesterday. It's from that same car pictured above. Around the 130-140kw mark seems pretty common. About 25-30kw more than stock.

12.5:1 static CR and a very soft stock map to pass emissions mean that there are good gains to be had just from E85 and a tune, as seen above.

also bear in mind a lot of the headline times thrown around are not attainable by mere mortals. I would wager that 1:08 done by bates at WP would be impossible for almost anyone else to achieve.

Yeah I saw ~29rwkw with E85 and about ~17rwkw on a 98 tune. E85 was probably worth around 1.5 sec at PI over 98 alone. (Down to 1:52.1412)

Was handy at Winton too but I was running semi's as well over previous times so slightly harder to quantify. Only got 12 laps in before fucking a tyre but ran 1:39.6462 which was 3sec on my previous PB and still fucking heaps in it.

Look at the torque/power dip around 4000-5000rpm.

Everyone bangs on about the dip being some massive issue. Sure if you drive around car parks all day.

On the track or through the hills, its completely irrelevant and unnoticeable IMO.
