Be interesting to see how this series goes. 60-70K for the car, and another 30-50K to run the series is by no means a "grassroots" category, but I've heard rumors that there are around 22 cars built to date.

          70K ! JESUS!!

Would have thought Toyota would have supplied barebone 86's for say $25K (no rego or stamp duty right?) and come up with a package deal to track ready them for say $15K ?? 40-45K tops.

Yeah, I was hoping you could buy a repairable write off and straighten it up for under 20K, and then maybe 25K package on top of that. I expect there'll be a bit of carnage in this series when every second competitor will be some young bloke looking for a V8 Supercar contract.

So we'll use a locked $4000 ECU for this 'grass roots' racing series. Smart.

Why run motec. Just run the factory ecu with mods to make it "track ready" ie brakes, suspension, safety (roll cage, seat, harness etc)

How much would you think it costs to build/race a top 5 IPRA car??

You don't have to be top 5, you can still race.

To lock the ecu's to ensure everyone is using the same tune.

Correct, but it is still by no means cheap even mid field. Point being a top 5 car would make this 86 racer seem cheap.

Grass roots motorsport these days is more along the lines of the Pulsar/Excel series.

Leading up to the selection of control specs I was down in Canberra and had a discussion with them about clutches and the difficulty people were having on downshifts from 3rd to 2nd but apparently no-one is having this issue.
