Its a corolla hatch so I’m still calling it gay.Originally posted by fly510 View Posti looked up the definition of shooting brake as I though the same thing. It appears we are both wrong as the definition I found made no mention of engines - either size or performance. using the povo spec donk is apparently ok in a shooting brake edition.Originally posted by SI just want to apologise for some of my shit talking back around page 5.

Got up to 5000km on the odo in mine over the weekend, so seemed like a good time for some more considered reflections.
Still loving the way it drives. All the things I said about it when I bought it remain true - love the steering and handling particularly, and the easy adjustability of it with the throttle. I still think it feels fast enough for the sort of things I use it for, which is basically commuting/running around and the odd drive just for enjoyment. Having said that, I also think it could comfortably handle more power and would be a different level of fun with say 200 or 220kW, so it still beats me as to why neither Toyota nor Subaru has come up with a properly fast version. Even if the pricetag was say $50k there wouldn't be a lot around that would offer the same combination of speed and handling.
I have been averaging 8.8l/100km in Canberra suburban commuting, which is exactly the same as nopics gets from her Cruze. On that score I am convinced this was a far better choice for $32k than some generic hatchback. Obviously the Cruze has more space but I do a fair bit of running around with two kids on board and it's absolutely fine for that - just can't go four-up.
Nothing significant has gone wrong, but there are two things bothering me about its quality. One is that the paint marks easily. The bootlid in particular seems poorly painted and got scratched the first time I washed the car, and now there is a spot on the edge that has a bit of a blue tinge to it - I can't work out what it is or whether it will polish out. Some tradie also leaned on the bootlid to write up a quote before I could stop him, and there's marks on it from where his clipboard thing was.
The other thing is that there is a persistent rattle from the instrument cluster that three attempts at repair haven't been able to nail. It stops when you press down on the plastic part below the instruments. Each time the dealer has identified a different part as the source of the problem, and each time the fix has lasted 1-2 days at best before coming back. I can live with the odd rattle now and then but this is present on anything other than a dead smooth surface - ie 95% of the time. If I can't get them to sort it I think I'll just upgrade the sound system instead; but I drive with no music/radio at all a lot of the time so it's annoying.
If they can get that sorted out, and the paint doesn't look like shit a few years from now, I'll be a satisfied customer.

you would prob be better off pulling the trim off and sticking some patches of dynamat on it to shut it up. some of the plastics etc in the car are just way too thin and shitty and im sure it is the reason why these things rattle like they do. echoing mr purple my aw11 has no rattles, yet my 86 had plenty1988 AW11 9A-GTE - project #1 | 1984 MA61 1JZ-GTE - project #2
