To me that definitely looks like same hard points, most of the glass, and probably the roof and doors of the current car. That's not really a problem. I don't think it looks better than the current car, just different, but will have to wait for official photos.

I just want some powertrain information damn it...

      Looks much the same.

147kW is going to look awfully slow by then...

Yeah. I keep reading of two possibilities: a turbo version, or a 2.4 litre NA with 162kW and 240Nm.

I guess 240Nm should fill the low-midrange torque hole, but it doesn't make me want to find a pile of money to change over from my nearly five year old one. A turbo version might.

So basically a Forester? Sounds good.

Knowing Subaru they'll probably make it CVT only too.

Whats the engine that goes into the 4cyl Supra and why could that not go into this

              BMW B48.
It's more of a torquey engine to push along a 3/5 series with an 8 speed auto than a sports car engine.

Would make the Subaru link pretty tenuous?
Doesn't the Subaru marketing department also say it'd have a higher centre of gravity due to not being punchy?
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

The more tenuous the Subaru link the better imo

Because it won't fit under the current bonnet height. One of the big advantages of the boxer is that it can sit low and still allow for 10cm of space (or whatever it is) above the engine to meet current pedestrian protection rules without needing a stupidly high bonnet.

I also wonder if that's what is preventing fitting a turbo version - does Subaru still only do top mount intercoolers?

They will never turbocharge the 86 as it will compete with the supra and now gr yaris.
