35-49yos will have a family and therefore not be looking for a 2 door coupe.

Why all the fuss about the target market? Is Toyota refusing to sell to anyone who isn't in that market?

Why is it a fuckup? Do you not appreciate that there is a big difference between people who lust after cars and people who actually have the means to buy them?

Take the FT86club forums - i would bet 90% of the posters on there are under the age of 25, and 90% of those have not a hope in hell of actually affording a $40-50k car

Toyota is marketing to teh people who will actually buy the car, not the people who will crap on about it on the internet. (on that note, i am right in the middle of their target demographic....)

Toyota 86 snobbery. Buying a $40K car has never been more elitist. "You're drifter? The used car section is over there kthxbi"

They are however, the type of people who will actually be able to buy the car. Can't really see a 22yr old in a busted arse Chaser going in & buying one.

$40k car is still not that much money if you're going to lease it.

What the fuck are all you cunts on about? It's a $40-45K car (apparently) and offers light weight, RWD and giggles. I personally couldn't give a rats arse if it had a Proton badge. It's not aimed at the AE86 drift set, they already have their shitters. IMO they will sell and fast.

Toyota will be watching closely at who will put down the money to buy one, and I'll bet thats the same guy that waits for motor/wheels magazine to tell him what car will give him the sports car driver persona and a bunch of buzzwords to fling around at work about the best sports car ever.

The target market of 20-30 yr old drift boys are still going to be buying used cars they pick up on the cheap and will be the buyers of these cars when they come off leases in 3-5 years time.

This is aimed at drift kids about as much as a 135i is aimed at drift kids.

Personally I think the market has moved on. A lot of people like their luxury or faux-luxury cars. Hence why GTis are so popular. People are shying away from cars that are similar money but faster/perhaps better driving such as the WRX because they've grown up a bit and want creature comforts. Yes RWD is fun, but I don't think it will sway that many people. Its more a niche product like the DC2 Integra - probably similar buyers. ie CUA.

Whereas my view is that I'm right in the target market and given the price (assuming around the 40k mark) this is by far the most attractive new car on the market. Stuff that is more interesting/fun is massively overpriced in australia and the competitors around that price range (WRX, GTI etc) just don't do it for me.

It's also worth mentioning that the average age of a new S15 buyer in Australia was 42.
