Probably not much. Except maybe the FT86/BRZ is the answer to a question the unwashed buying public haven't asked.
Mazda have the MX5. Great handling, folding hardtop, no power. Sales are diminishing to nothing..

The MX6 comparison is interesting. But you often see people selling MX5s because they need to get something sensible (ie kid on the way). So maybe (given the demographic that ToyAust is targetting) Toyota see this as the family man's affordable sports car? The MX5 performance wise is comparable, but only has two seats, therefore more limited market.

Interesting to note that (from what i have seen/read) none of the journalists, test drivers or members of the public who have driven the car have had any issues with its performance/power.

1. They (journos) don't lay down their own money on one.
2. They can get a 911, M3, E55 fix when required

RX8's are not exactly attractive, but that's a matter of opinion I suppose.

I think releasing it as a low powered vehicle is a great idea, people will still buy it because it is balanced blah blah blah and then the Japanese and US aftermarket will go batshit on it and you'll be able to buy everything for it you could ever want. It'll reinvigorate the japanese aftermarket and give the US another channel to make money. Back to the good old days. /rose coloured glasses.
