If JDM-spec cars are tuned for their best fuel (100?) on a high comp engine it could make a reasonable difference and account for better times?

Just spoke to friendly Toyota sales manager at biggest dealer in brisbane. A manual 86 will be there on the 15th June to take for a test drive.

He is positive the base model will be under 40k. I believe him.

Just watching more videos on Youtube, it seems the MX5 run around in the 14.7-14.9 mark pretty consistently (proper track).
And its clear the Toybaru is marginally faster, so it definitely runs at least mid 14.

Not that straight line speed matters though eh?

200hp and 1200kg.. it would be lucky to run a 15.0-14.8 i would think

Trying not to come across as a fanboy as I so want this to be a great car....

Latest review on ignition is favorable....

The only bad(ish) review was the auto BRZ by EVO. remember the BRZ is setup for more under steer than the 86, I guess for the symmetrical-ness of their clientele and the auto is 60kg on the manual. Yes not much but that is a passenger or a fair chuck for a small car.

                Convince me I'm wrong please

Given the best I got out of a previous model Boxster S was a 13.5, low 14s isn't too bad.

Actually CAR Magazine had a similar average review (manual BRZ)

In that Ignition review he got a 14.8 and 0-60mph 6.2sec by dumping the clutch at 4600rpm with heaps of wheel spin, vs. the Best Motoring test where they launched at 3500 and got low-mid 14s

The truth is somewhere in between?

I think it's safe to say this is comfortably quicker than the 7sec to 100, 15sec 1/4 car it was made out to be, which is a relief

Nice torque all the way through - except that blip.
Does it have VTEC yo or something?
Looking at over 7k perhaps an exhaust or cam upgrades might go well. type type of engine shouldn't really die at that lowish (low for the type of engine) RPM.
Would be nice to think opening it up a bit would yield more funs up to 9k
