You would have to have built the slab that way to start with. Chasing a hundred mil out of even a 150 slab would leave fuckall.

If you could remake the feet to sit up on top of the existing slab it might be ok..

Yeah I would of told you to fuck off chasing out the floor for a hoist.
As Muz said the only way to get it right would be to cut out the area of floor the hoist was going on then re-do that section of slab. Easy enough job to do that but still a fuck around.
Any one know the specs that the slab needs to be to fit a 2 poster?
I have been trolling ebay for weeks now looking for a 2 poster and want to make sure my slab will be thick enough other wise I'll drill a couple of 400mm holes in the floor and do some new footings for one.

100mm std slab. But having said that, how many domestic slabs have been poured correctly?

They always seem to have tiny little bases which seems like a mistake to me. Having said that most are bolted to commercial slabs where the thickness of slab is much more likely to be consistent/ sufficient and the concrete actually be checked for strength..

              For me, I couldn't fit a 4 poster in

My garage has a centre pillar, and you have to drive straight onto a 4 poster.

I drive in and have to hook it slightly, the hoist is positioned slightly off centre and at an angle to make this easy.

              Height/Width
measure your car from sill to roof and measure your height add 300mm and there you go.
              posts height is about 2770mm
total lift height to top of pads is1900mm + car height
              overal width is 3250mm

              slab
As choppo said, if its a fairly modern slab with reo, 100mm, otherwise 150mm

              Installed cost
I already had 3 phase in the electrical box to drive the airconditioning system. But all the neutrals had been used up, so needed a sparky to put a new panel in.
I bought a 100 metre roll of 2.5mm 4 Core + Earth Orange Circular 3 phase cable, a 25 metre roll of 20mm flexible conduit, a box of half saddles, and ran the electricity myself to cut down on labour.

Then had the sparky put in a switch in the garage, and connect up to the hoist.

For the power side of things, I spent $320 on cable stuff and $400 parts and labour with the sparky. ouch.

Hoist itself was second hand, and from a workshop around the corner from my house. The hoist guy is my mate, so I paid sweet f-all for the hoist and installation, however allow $2500-$3500 for a quality, work cover certified, australian made hoist second hand (installed in Sydney)

              Recommendation for installer

My ravaglioli required a 150mm slab (so did the molnars I was looking at with SL81 mesh), over a minimum area of 4m wide by 1.5m deep.

Gees you really didn't muck around with time. Well done, you will wonder how you got by without it.

Not on the majority ive seen. You have to lower the arms to the bottom of their travel before the safety locks will disengage and you can now move them freely. Soon as you lift it up, they lock solid in position. If you recess it into the floor you arent going to get the arms all the way down, so I think it will be a problem. Likewise, you'll have to make sure the slab is strong (thick enough) too, so it sounds like a fuckload of work for something.

Dino, I've had two of those hoists in my workshop for 2.5 years and not had a problem. They are good units and very well priced. Sensibly priced unlike Molnars.

depending on how often you use the thing having the bump on the floor is a major pain in the arse. like mentioned it gets in the way of gearbox jacks, oil containers etc. not to mention if you are looking up at the car working you can trip on it. i havent priced hoists for years but if you have the roof clearance and can strectch for one with the cables going over head rather than on the floor, do it.

Any idea if these are available locally?

yeah it can degrade rubber bushes, but a few days aren't a problem, or if it has neoprene bushes everywhere.
