What did he actually say? I think alkl the back-patting has ignored the fact that the city flooded. Sure they are doing what looks to be a good job dealing with it but the planning that failed to keep Brisbane safe has to be scrutinised?Originally posted by 2rismo View PostIs it too late to nominate Tony Abbott for (political opportunist) Ftuckwit of the Year?

has anyone seen a comparison of rainfall amounts from 1974 flood compared to jan 2011 rainfall amounts?
if can see it ,will tell a story as to how effective the dams were at preventing /mitigating floods.
i did a google but is so much stuff out there cant see a concise comparison
another thing is that as you get more urban sprawl all the hard standing ie roads , houses , factories ,rooves (roofs?), carparks etc increases /concentrates the run off -as it displaces soils/open ground to soak the water away

It rained for nearly a month solid. I'd love to see the rain fall comparisons, because most of QLD is flooded, not just Brisbane.Originally posted by bigmuz View PostWhat did he actually say? There is a law that says youre responsible for any water that falls on a developed area of your property and are not suppose to discharge it onto a downhill neighbouring property. This means half of Queenslander's are now criminal scum, better get the old gallows going!!Originally posted by Bob Saget View PostJust because there is a flood you don't have a free pass to break the law, wtf are you on about towie...

if you can find the 2011 figures :Originally posted by Bob Saget View PostIt rained for nearly a month solid. I'd love to see the rain fall comparisons, because most of QLD is flooded, not just Brisbane.
here is the 1974 figures: fuck 1.3 m of rain in 5days...
from here : page 26 , 27Total rainfall for the 5 day period from 9 am Thursday 24 January to 9 am
Tuesday 29 January is shown as an isohyetal map in Fig 7. Totals in the
Brisbane metropolitan area ranged from 500 to 900 mm and exceeded 300 mm
over all but the extreme western parts of the Brisbane River catchment area.
Among the highest 5 day totals were 1318 mm at Mt Glorious, in the catchment
of the middle reaches of the Brisbane River, and 819 mm at New Beith, near the
head of Oxley Creek. The Brisbane Bureau, in the heart of the city, recorded 650
mm during this period.

Total rainful in the Brisbane river catchment was apparently double that of 1974 in 2011.Originally posted by 9triton View Postif you can find the 2011 figures :

We were partly saved by the fact that in 1974 it fell pretty much directly on Brisbane - the creek levels were a lot lower in 2011 as a result.

i dont think they are having a go at the cop himself, maybe the dick that told him to set up there though..... because every driver experiences the destructive potential of the effortless surge of power available through the smallest of body movements.
