DOnt worry. Surf is no angel either and its turbo diesel.
Seems like only modern 4wd are fuel efficient.

Prado lugging 2.2 tones can get around 11l/kms and thats petrol.

I always thought that air in the fuel system in the mornings meant your fuel pump was leaking. That was exactly the case in my Corolla, fresh pump seals and it started perfectly even after several days. If you can push the primer button once or twice before feeling resistance you have a leak.

But, glow plugs are cheap. If you haven't changed them already do it first.

Yup forgot to mention that before. Diesel mech. told me the same thing. However he also said that this same one-way valve can sometimes restrict fuel flow into the pump.

In my case it isn't leaking pump (as mentioned, recently rebuilt by reputable diesel workshop in Adelaide, fully bench tested etc cost $2,100) so it's probably something auxiliary - most likely fuel filter or fuel lines from filter to pump etc. It's not enough of an issue for me to be overly concerned, but will still do a quick check anyway, given that I don't need to jack the car up to get under it!
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

                Well sorted out my problem.
I say dont trust the glow plug light. Its on a seperate timer that light.
It has no link to the glow plugs themselves.

Cold start I wait about five seconds and the car starts perfectly.
Im going to change them this weekend anywa.
