Best price i've seen is $2149 for a brand new EJ207 short block is Rising Sun Subaru on OzFoz.

Kris supplied me the donor motor for my 2.35 build last year ... and would you believe it, I have finally picked up a bugeye STi cheap to drop it in!

        Yup - but:

        Say $2200 for the short.
        Reco on heads $700-900.
Gasket set, timing kit, water pump $1100
        Assembly - $600

        = $4800

Actually, that'd not bad considering you get all new shit, forged slugs & semi closed deck cases!

But the 207's do still run bearings - fixed one last week.
Easy enough to split the cases, check the brg clearances & fit ACL race brgs to sort em tho.

Hang 10, I'll get some prices.

$2350 for the 207 shorts ATM, normal trade price is $2650.

What'd make for a nice motor is:
207 short with brg clearances sorted.
Reco'd heads with pocket port & good seats.
          ARP head studs

You could throw 260-270kw atw at that & it'd cope on a good tune.

Just went to see Mick Harding from Techworx here in Canberra, ... looking at the option of an MY02 STi long motor to replace the dead one.

Fired it up before, man it sounds really really bad, and also blowing a huuuuuuge amount of smoke too.

For $3500 you are not just getting a long motor, you are getting a complete engine with STi turbo and sti ecu. It will go a lot better than a normal WRX engine and won't blow up, they are very reliable. I did the same job for a guy a couple of weeks ago. MY04 WRX, 100% std, spun bearing. Smashed an STi engine in with ecu and it's a better car now for not much money.

So a straight bolt in job, use the v7 ECU? no other fuck arounds at all?

Can you still source these motors for $3500?

Serious question, why do they do big ends? Was Subaru just plain sloppy with the engines and slapped them together with no regard to proper clearences? I keep hearing about non thrashed subis, turbos and NA, needing engine rebuilds/replacements at stupidly low km. I can see why you would buy one if you plan on modding the crap out of it, but if you just want a reliable, fun daily hack then I'd question why the hell you would go near the bloody things. My EA82 put me off Subaru for a long time, been thinking about getting a Foz/Lib turbo next year for a fun daily.

High output 2L engines blow up, it happens. You hear about it a lot because they sold 11ty billion of them so it is a big sample.
Plus they are 10 years past there used by date and keep getting new axe heads and handles.

I can get you a V7 engine/ecu but theres none available right now as all the ones I have been waiting for are presold. The only available engine is a V8 STi twinscroll which is around $5k. Shitloads better engine that is newer and the price reflects this.

The Bugeye STi that I just picked up has 340,000km on the clock and the EJ207 in it is still going strong. Will be getting replaced by the 2.35 that TK built for me, but will do for a spare engine even so.
