Will come down to personal preference I agree. Both pretty good. Both have average interiors.

Results: SV6 SIDI first up for the win. 2 run average, cause I was a bit surprised myself how hard it went I did another run.

    0-10 MPH: 0.70 sec
    0-20 MPH: 1.51 sec
    0-30 MPH: 2.41 sec
    0-40 MPH: 3.47 sec
    0-50 MPH: 4.76 sec
    0-60 MPH: 6.17 sec
    0-70 MPH: 8.03 sec
    0-80 MPH: 10.07 sec
    0-90 MPH: 12.32 sec

    Elapsed Time

    60': 2.38 sec @ 28.3 MPH
    330': 6.27 sec @ 59.5 MPH
    1/8 mi: 9.50 sec @ 76.1 MPH
    1000': 12.25 sec @ 88.5 MPH
    1/4 mi: 14.55 sec @ 98.2 MPH

    Miscellaneous

    Max Speed: 99.3 MPH
    Max Acceleration: 0.71 G's
    Peak Horsepower: 269 HP

Next we have XR6 5 speed auto, built mid 2010. Only 1/8 mile results for this one, plus 95 kg passenger, but I'd say a 6 speed and no passenger would pretty much match the SV6.

    0-10 km/h: 0.55 sec
    0-20 km/h: 1.08 sec
    0-30 km/h: 1.64 sec
    0-40 km/h: 2.33 sec
    0-50 km/h: 3.03 sec
    0-60 km/h: 3.70 sec
    0-70 km/h: 4.46 sec
    0-80 km/h: 5.33 sec
    0-90 km/h: 6.29 sec
    0-100 km/h: 7.37 sec
    0-110 km/h: 8.62 sec
    0-120 km/h: 10.05 sec

    Elapsed Time

    60': 2.61 sec @ 42.0 km/h
    330': 6.70 sec @ 91.1 km/h
    1/8 mi: 10.03 sec @ 119.2 km/h
    1000': 13.17 sec @ 111.1 km/h

    Miscellaneous

    Max Speed: 123.2 km/h
    Max Acceleration: 0.60 G's
    Peak Horsepower: 234 HP

And finally, we have a now superseded 3.6 (non SIDI) 4 speed auto Commonwhore. Yep, slow and hateful auto. I couldn't believe the difference.

    0-10 MPH: 0.95 sec
    0-20 MPH: 2.15 sec
    0-30 MPH: 3.51 sec
    0-40 MPH: 4.96 sec
    0-50 MPH: 6.82 sec
    0-60 MPH: 9.32 sec
    0-70 MPH: 12.04 sec
    0-80 MPH: 14.98 sec

    Elapsed Time

    60': 2.82 sec @ 23.8 MPH
    330': 7.34 sec @ 50.9 MPH
    1/8 mi: 11.08 sec @ 66.2 MPH
    1000': 14.28 sec @ 77.6 MPH

      no way in hell.

i spent a day as passenger in a 6.0L gxp VE wagon the other day... 60+ grand of meh.

engine was great. the rest of the car was way average. made me lol at all the commo drivers that say the ford interior is shit....

holdens leather was plastic ( all the int was! ), the ride was NOT comfortable at all. the 1996 volvo 850se i got into after being in the commo was a LOT nicer place to be!! ( albeit a fuckload slower and uglier outside )

a mates g6e turbo is a tad nicer inside too!

one thing with the VE is that i didnt find the pillars as bad as id expected.... well not compared to my jazz!!

G, if you're doing those kays i'd be going for the most comfortable of the two.

I found the seating position, dash, and particularly 6spd ZF box of the XR6 much better than the Commodores (although I must admit, I haven't been in the new VE series with their touch screen AV... only the original VE series).

I'd definitely be going the XR6 and pocketing the cash you've saved over the SV6.

33.5K on road for an SV6. Is an XR6 ute much cheaper?

There was a tuned NA XR6 that did a 13.9 at WSID last year. Pretty impressive.

                  **Update 31/5 ***

After alot of indecisiveness, and getting fucked around by the poor blokes at Denmac, i picked up the R6 in white this evening (nothing too flashy).

Got the chance to have an extended test drive of the Holden, and the Ford.

At the end of it all, the only positive the Holden had - was exterior looks. The ford felt better to drive & more comfy, had better features, had the better interior(yeah, changed my mind after four hours of driving both), longer warranty by 2 years. I wasn't willing to spend the extra $7k on looks for a work hack!

Ended up getting it for $27,000 on the road, after alot of to-ing and fro-ing with them.

This included the 6 speed auto, floor matts, tinting, full tank of fuel, and tray liner, and 5 year warranty.

I'm really happy with the price & the ute. I dont think i could have managed a better ute for the price.

Playing around with it tonight, it's surprising the amount of customisation the ICC is capable of! Iphone plays and sorts through MP3's better then the aftermarket high end Alpine unit i've been using.

Ute sits on the road well, very balanced in terms of stiffness vs smooth ride. Only thing that's taking some getting used to, is the brakes. It's a very hard pedal on first press, but then eases up.

Will do me for a few years. Now i've got a dependable daily, next aim is to save up for the next 6-12 months, for a cool/fun pre 1994 weekend car.

Have been throwing alot of options around with the girly. Want a new hobby for sundays - instead of Monday killing sunday sessions.

Nothing's decided. Will all depend on how much i can keep aside each week, and what's around once we're ready. I'm really liking the idea of a low tech original minter, with a higher tech conversion. I also really want to throw a simple L67 into something that's small and made of metal.

looks good, for a work hack it'll have everything you need and you have to be happy with it. the falcon is arguably a better bit of kit at any rate

the l67 in a little old shell would be awesome for a weekender. kit it up manual and that would be some awesome fun.
