FYI, the WSID site recommends the train+taxi approach.
I suspect that with two flagfalls, even though it's not all that far, the total cost per day won't be far short of $50 by the time you buy train tickets; dunno what you could organise to do a car for, remembering that a 100km/day limit won't be any problem.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

That's going to be $80 for the two, per day, then ... that rental's looking a lot more interesting, especially considering the relative convenience (well - assuming it's not too PITA'y to pick it up & park it if more'n one day is involved).

Bayswater @ $30 a day looks the go. parking at $40 a night isn't real special though.
What are the fines for parking on the street around darling harbour or do they like to just tow stuff?

Fines will be triple-digits easy; thing is you might find a spot anyway, NFI; Darling Harbour is sort-of outside the CBD and any locals driving to the city surely wouldn't park a 15min-20min walk away when that's half a bus or train trip.
The casino was dirt cheap for parking when it first opened, I assume they've decided to milk that cow now though? Depends where in "Darling Harbour" you're staying too I guess, I keeep forgetting that the CBD side of that bay is also referred to as "Darling Harbour" (and if it's the CBD side you can forget finding easy parking on the street - unless it's at 1am mind you).
Is that $40 with the hotel? If not - they can't do you a better deal?

Yeowch, the Star City site says they charge $15-$25 per 6hr block; over the weekend it'd be $50 for the night.

Pretty sure the entertainment centre and even star city is only around $25 a night for parking. Seriously fuck getting the train, Blacktown station is a shithole, if you have to, get off at Seven Hills. Would only be $5-10 more expensive for a cab and less likely to get stabbed. Maybe see if the buses run down the M2 that late, more likely to get happy munters than stabby cunts that way.
                        I have stuff...

This could be the goods for parking: clicky-click

That "party parking" thing looks of interest, park after 6pm & leave between 11am-2pm the next day. $10. Friday & Saturday nights only. May be worth contacting them? Can't be far from where you're staying.

                            +1 on Bayswater car rentals.

As far as I know all the street parking in the city and around Darling HArbour is times 24 hours a day. You will get a parking ticket, even late at night.
