Ozito something bunnings special. I also have an air powered rattle gun but it only gets used when I am using the compressor for something else. It takes longer for the compressor to build up pressute than it does to get out an extension cord.

Ive got one of these and a large one...this one is handy for pumpin up tyres/spinning off a few wheel nuts etc....ar as Cammo said, air ratchet work...I tossed the curly hose in the bin Day 1,and now use a long air line to keep the noisy bastard around the side of the shed...I have painted small items with it too,but even on low pressure it runs out of puff pretty fast..
If you just want something convenient to use every now and then I say grab one! Years warranty will just about see you through

Would it be able to undo say a crankshaft nut?

I would only use the compressor for small stuff like blowing out lines etc but being able to use it to undo tight bolts would be good, as opposed to resorting to doidgy methods

This will have to do with the rattle not the compressor.

It'll work just fine for general use. I have a GMC that's identical to that compressor, it's now five years old. I have two actually, I gang them together to paint cars. Despite my never having drained water out of them or checked oil, they keep going. One WILL run a rattle gun, I do it nearly every weekend.
At $99 or so to replace them, I give no fark if I ever have to replace one (and as I said, I haven't had to, bloody things!).
Life's too short to drive boring cars.

tez, if you want a compressor that can handle a rattle gun at full pressure for 10+ seconds, you wont be looking at a low end one.. unless you join 2-3 of them and bypass the reg.

and if you want to remove your crank bolt, get a breaker bar (and a piece of pipe that goes over it so you can extend it if need be)

rest it on the chassis rail (taking note of which way the crank spins) and flick the starter over. works nearly every time

Hmm decisions decisions. So all cheapies in the sub $250 bracket are much the muchness. What $$$ do you need to spend to get a okish one?

How does this Stanley one from Supercheap compare ?

Yeah thats the method I will be using instead of buying a u-beaut compressor

Have one of these and its great for wheel nuts.
I bought a similar looking one from Aldi a while back and it wouldn't do shit so I took it back and got a refund. It would spin the socket no worries in free air with no load but as soon as you put it on a wheel nut it wouldn't do anything.

I got one from Dick Smith a while back, worked okay for a few uses, but now doesn't seem to 'engage'. Thinking back the battery I was using may have been down on voltage, so may be related.

I did manage to get it to undo an alternator nut that I couldn't get manually though.

                              Was $20 or something DSE

FWIW I used a cheap shit one to paint a car a while back. What I did was get one of those huge natural gas bottles and connect it to the compressor (after welding in a drain fitting on the bottom. So the little compressor take years to fill it up but you have a bigger reserve, works alright. Can get pics if anyone is interested.
