            6061 T6 is generally the cheapest suitable alloy for fittings. It anodises well and has sufficient strength.

            2024 T8 is also heat treatable grade and about 80% stronger than 6061 so good for cutter nipples and swivel nuts that might tend to dilate when tightened.
            It also machines easier too and happens to be the alloy a lot of the old US Mil Spec and AN standard fittings were designed around.
            2024 holds its strength at high temperature a lot better than 6061 which in some applications is a consideration.
            Claimed horsepower sceptic.
