What's the issue with 6061? It has high tensile strength and after that you're into 7075.Originally posted by Momus View PostLately I've been using a few XRP hose cutter ends. These are good pieces with the proper specified grade of high strength aluminium, not 6061, used for the swivel nuts and cutter.2017 Ford Ranger XLT (Jeep Wrangler recovery vehicle)

6061 T6 is generally the cheapest suitable alloy for fittings. It anodises well and has sufficient strength.Originally posted by xw351 View PostWhat's the issue with 6061? It has high tensile strength and after that you're into 7075.
2024 T8 is also heat treatable grade and about 80% stronger than 6061 so good for cutter nipples and swivel nuts that might tend to dilate when tightened.
It also machines easier too and happens to be the alloy a lot of the old US Mil Spec and AN standard fittings were designed around.
2024 holds its strength at high temperature a lot better than 6061 which in some applications is a consideration.Claimed horsepower sceptic.
