    Nissan Terrano

So we are looking into a 2nd car, has to be my daily, needs to be 4wd. Found a nice looking import terrano, 93 model 2.7TD auto with 200 000km on it. Had all suspension replaced, major service, new brakes, new tyres and in my 5k budget.

Now im not looking for a hardcore 4wd, just needs to soft beach work, and random bush trips. What are these things like? Who has owned one? Any major issues known? My 5k budget is a big set back in looking at 4wd's but with bub on the way its my only option.

My mate had one. Thrashed the thing offroad, really drove it like he stole it. Couldn't kill it. Gave it to his father who uses it to tow a boat. It came along on our last 4x4 trip and it still goes well. Only problem they had with it was many dings and a bit of rust.
I'm not straight outta Compton, I'm straight out the trailer.

A mate of mine has one of these. Apparently its got a lot of the Patrol suspension / drive line components? (diffs maybe).

Anyway he treats it like shit, and it still works fine. As far as im aware its never missed a beat.

I saw one that seemed fairly well maintained, fucked a cam angle sensor and the guy was trying to sell it for about $3000, so obviously a massively expensive fuck up. /CSL

they have the same rear diff as a coil gq/gu patrol (HB233?) but not alot else is similar. they are the same-ish basic platform as Nissan 720 - current D22 except with coil rear. TD series diesel are tractor-like in lifespan and power. I think the CAS comment must be to do with the petrol version as the TD27t doesnt need a whole lot of electric do do what its gotta do. The cam and injector pump is gear driven, the only thing you need to ever look at is valve clearance. Probably budget for a injector pump overhaul sometime in the next 200,000km. They seem to be a tough unit, a mate had a 2.4efi 199x that laster 400,000km plus with no major work, just a few clutches. It went everywhere and did lots of Fraser trips.

How many tie rods did he bend? You dont need to drive them very hard before they bend a tie rod, i wouldn't even take one on the beach till that problem is fixed.

Very different beasts, the Terrano II was sold, briefly, here and was built in Spain.

Innit just a Pathfinder / Navara?
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

720/D21/D22/Pathfinder/Terrano are all the sameish chassis in that you could probably swap any of the bodies with the chassis without huge changes. I've seen a few D21 navara cabs mated to terrano/pathfinder coil chassis. Mate's terrano 2 did have some odd electrical issues but nothing too bad. Now that I think about it he had to replace the auto locking hubs for manual ones because they boke, not a big job. Also the A/C compressor died. The suspension only need shockies twice in it's life, everything else std. Probably applies to terrano I. As an alternative, navaras might hold resale value a little better and also had TD27t.
