I remember an incident a while back similar to that which was the reason we all had to start wearing the Fluoro high vis stuff.
Exactly the same sort on incident happened in my home town. Guy I grew up with plowed in to the back of a bread van, and almost amputated the legs of the delivery guy, which I also knew. He survived, and kept his legs, but they were so badly mangled he never walked again without the aid of two crutches. He never worked again also.
The guy I knew who hit him never got over it also. About four years later he got a length of vacuum cleaner hose from the store, and gassed himself in his car. His wife, who I also knew, never got over it either.

And all that from a foggy windscreen.

Where frost will form on the window, even after youve de-frosted it.
The other night here in Canberra, I went out and hopped into the car. Everything looked fine - none of the windows were even slightly fogged up. Started driving, and literally within about 2 or 3 seconds (not an exaggeration) the windscreen COMPLETELY fogged over, to the point where I could see nothing. Even with the front demister going full blast, it still took a good 20 seconds or so for it to start going back to normal. There was no way for me to pull over so I basically had to drive blind (with the window down) until I could see through the windscreen again.

No idea what happened, normally when the windows fog up it takes several minutes, not instantaneous...

I go through the frost and the fog regularly when leaving for work. Infact I even drove through a blizzard and snow today! I find the best method is to start the car, crank demister, close the door and stand outside in the cold and have a cigarette.. It melts the frost off the windscreen, sorts the foggy windows and makes the car hospitable for me to cough my lungs up after the cigarette in 0degrees!

That's one reason many cars here have remote start ... start the car 20 minutes before you go outside from the warm of the house.

No idea. This was probably 20-30 years ago though.

Yep, get this every morning up here on the mountain... I use the hose to start the process and then just turn the demister on... which funnily enough uses more aircon than heat o.O

nothing funny about it using the aircon, AC dries the air out.

I would like to see a car where you pull up at night (either in your garage or carport or just your driveway). Plug it into a 240v socket and set your preferred time for the heater, demister, oil pump (and some sort of heater) to kick in like 10 mins before you leave for work.

Then you just walk up to the car, un plug it, hop in, start it up and off you go. Warm car, warm oil (which would have half warmed up your engine after it's been pumped around) and defrosted windows.

Some trucks up north tend to have something like that.
