    PF builders.... help reqd

    Gday,
i need to line and insulate my shed ceiling.
    see pic.

will I have to remove the sheets and lay aircell / insulwool, sarkin or can i just line it from the inside with insulwool and sheet with something like 3 ply or roofing iron screwed up from the inside?

    ideas?

I'm planning to do mine with batts and corro, much lighter, easier to work with and the sheets can be ordered to length compared to ply, plus it won't sag/warp over time.

Depends how you want it to look. If you want it to be purely functional and cheap, Id go with a 100mm glasswool batt with foil underside (possibly anitcon, but im not sure if they make a thick enough batt) and just get them to hold it up with wire mesh.

You could remove the roof and get a thinner anticon put down (55mm), then screw the roof sheets through it, this would finish neater but would be alot more work.

Then theres to other end of the scale, you could get standard batts strung up there and then sheet over the top of it. Expensive but would work and look great. You could use corro for the sheet but it will be very expensive compared to plaster or FC.

You have to bare in mind that 95% of sheds aren't designed/engineered to be lined eg a lot of extra weight. Plus you have to consider the time and materials ie more tophat etc needed to secure the gyprock and then finishing it and painting it.

Well according to my system, a sheet metal roof and a plaster ceiling have the same weight, so from an engineering point of view, neither is better.

Plaster has to be sanded but only because you use to get a proper smooth surface. I agree its too much work to both with from a non-living area.

FC doesnt have to be sanded, you just joint strips. Securing it is just as simple as colorbond. If youre going to sheet a workshop, its what Id use.

Im a cheap cunt though so unless its going to be used as a spray both, I wouldnt even line it. Foil backed batts with wire mesh would be plenty good

hmmmmm, i didnt consider the additional weight........

ok, i would like it lined, it looks neat and tidy, especially in the bottom right of the shed where the bar area will be.

roofing iron would look the goods, especially some old rusty looking shit.

Haha, didnt realise it was for a bar. Old roofing will look sweet but if you really want to pimp it out....maybe use white paint FC sheets for the rest of it, and the old rusty shit just as a feature over your bar. Your choice, but Ive seen a few bars made using reclaimed timber/etc....they always look better when the rest of the room is just clean and simple.

Couple of whirly birds? though that'd only be good for summer.

swampy air con going in also, we are in central NSW, so the swampy will do the trick...
wirly birds just for the ceiling section?

If youve got aircon, you dont want whirly birds in the same area. Whirly birds would only be used in the ceiling cavity, but you wont have one.

That stuff is good but would be more expensive than ripping down the entire roof and building it from scratch with insulation and lining.

thats what i was thinking too......
if i line the ceiling and screw it off to the top hats will it be a rodent nest?

I doubt it but best way to make sure it wont is to thoroughly close off any gaps and make sure the little cunts cant get in there.

The extra dead load won't be a problem as wind uplift is usually the dominate load case on small to medium sheds.

The bigger issue for removing the sheets is so that you can lay some sarking (silver foil) from the ridge to the eaves to remove the condensation which will form between your sheeting and the insulation.

Then you can go crazy with the insulation. (not too crazy..)
