I thought old repairs, you don't really see stuff like that unless it has been done before.

I would think that this illustrates what happens when Baslac and other retards sell clear kits for a hundred dollars actually..

Back in the early/mid 90's, when two-pack was reasonably new in the smash repair industry, painters were just learning how to use and apply the new paints.

It was common practice (recommended by paint companies) to lay down a very dry, dusty mist coat of metallic basecoat to orientate the metallic particles and avoid tiger striping and mottle.

When the clear is applied, it just can't get the adhesion/bite it needs from the dusty basecoat and the clearcoat delaminates.

It's extremely common to see on factory acrylic cars that have been repaired with two pack as well.

It must have been a real shit clearcoat put on because after all the rain we've had in the past week the clear is just lifting off it like cellophane.

As soon as it lifts, its fucked. Just take it down the car wash and blast as much of the clear off as you can. It's basically just dead skin.

The products these days are pretty well sorted. Back in the day, the paint manufacturers didn't even really know what the fuck they were doing. Products change daily.

My boss took a big paint company to court for their faulty product ( jobs faded and went chalky within 6 months of repair) on over 200 cars. Lot's of $$$$$$$!
And it wasn't all that long ago.

Thanks that kinda makes sense. The water is just sitting underneath the clear in some parts which is just making it easy to lift off. Even the garden hose on it is lifting it.

Im getting resprayed next week so it's not much of a concern right now.

I just don't want it peeling down to the windscreen surrounds and that which will just probably be a headache for sucker when he repaints it.

basecoat isn't going to protect the metal from rust so i'd recommend trying to get the flaky shit off so the water can dry instead of pooling under it.

You'll be fine anyway seeing as it's getting painted so soon.

Atlas grey VN SS?/ EDIT: vx ss. Unusual for vx. Has to be cheap materials and cheap labour. Does look like it's been on fire though.
