I'd rather pay 23k for my 23yo patrol than pay for a great wall.

Thankfully I paid 6k so am 17k better off than any great wall owner.

Although power mirrors would be nice (has everything else).

Patrol or landcruiser ute if you can live with it. D22 if you need something smaller. Nothing else would even be on the radar.
Pest Control - Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich and South West QLD PF discounts apply.

So you don't like the d22 looks, but a great wall is fine?

This thread is like asking "I dont like chubby chicks, so is screwing a guy really that bad?"

d22 wil be the best option for your needs imo. Its a no thrills car, just a good cheap workhorse that drives good imo.

If I was a betting man and had to place a wager of what would last longer out of a d22 with 200,000kms and a new great wall. My money would still be on the d22.

(I am assuming you have not test driven any of them or this thread would not exist)
At the end of the day mate im not buying just a "workhorse". Im buying something to drive everyday, and looks are important to me. Im not going to buy a 25k car just because its a cheap workhorse. 25k isnt cheap to me.

The safety rating doesnt really phase me because there are alot of people out there driving worse. Plus not everyone can afford a 40k car, not that I would ever spend 40k on a car anyway.

As for the D22, you are right they dont look too bad. I only had a quick look at them. All of the newer ones are diesel though. I wasnt even considering diesel as I know nothing about them and have never even been near one. There is not much around 25k for a newer one though. They are closer to 30k.

No I have not test driven them yet, I am doing research before I do. I am not even close to a decision, only wanted to see what the word about Great Walls is. Im curious to know if any of you have actually owned one though, or know someone who has and not just going by what you hear from your mates cousin?

BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA

you won't be driving it, its gonna be getting repaired all the time, you'll be picking rust patches off it and you certainly will look cool because everyone will be assuming that you are the smart guy who looked in great walls but didnt get one

Never said Great Walls look great. I'd much prefer a Hilux, Rodeo etc. anyday.

probably because diesels are better for this application
you may not care about the safety rating of the great wall utes but it gives an indication of the kind of solid build you can expect

Not much bloody worse, though, unless you're in something from the 80s. Don't forget that as well as the dismal 2-star ANCAP, these things also have the same shitty suspension, crap tyres and high centre of gravity that all of these types of utes are stuck with, so not only are you worse off if you do crash, you're also more likely to crash it in the first place.

At least the more modern stuff like the Triton, Navara, Hilux and Amarok come with ESP and lots of airbags these days so you've got some protection...

I dunno, you're awfully defensive about the Great Wall for someone who hasn't at all made up their mind to buy one. This thread so far has been full of very good reasons not to buy one and hardly a word in favour; does that tell you something?

To be fair, just about all of its competitors are pretty ugly as well. I know styling is a personal thing, but the only ones I'd be happy to look at every day are the Triton and Colorado (at least until the new Ranger comes along).

They dont look as good as a Hilux etx. but I dont think they look terrible. It was more the price for a brand new ute I guess. I've only just started looking.

I've got my answer anyway. I dont think I would buy one for the simple fact of how many people have only negative things to say about them. I was just hoping to hear from someone who has owned/ been around one.

you probably won't find anyone who owns one on here, being largely car savvy people (well.. to an extent.. :p ).
the fact that no one on here has bought one should be telling in itself?

Certainly does say something mate and thats the exact reason why I asked on this forum.

You can't argue that the Navara/Hilux/Triton, even the D-Max/Colorado are built to a better standard that the Great Walls; theres a difference between outsourced to Japanese standards, and built to Chinese standards.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe, and from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip-malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moments lost in time; gone like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die.

In all fairness, which would be safer in a crash perspective, 10 year old Nissan/Toyota 4wd or a a new Great Wall, at some point a brand spanking new Great Wall is going to be safer then a older japanese/euro car if you go back in time

I agree with that. Considering a 10yo 4wd wouldnt have even had airbags.
