The safety rating doesnt really phase me because there are alot of people out there driving worse. Plus not everyone can afford a 40k car, not that I would ever spend 40k on a car anyway.

As for the D22, you are right they dont look too bad. I only had a quick look at them. All of the newer ones are diesel though. I wasnt even considering diesel as I know nothing about them and have never even been near one. There is not much around 25k for a newer one though. They are closer to 30k.

No I have not test driven them yet, I am doing research before I do. I am not even close to a decision, only wanted to see what the word about Great Walls is. Im curious to know if any of you have actually owned one though, or know someone who has and not just going by what you hear from your mates cousin?
At The Wharf they have a 100% failure rate, as in the Batteries are dead flat and all need jump starting to get them off the boats, so they must have a very heavy constant draw to flatten a battery after being driven on in the first place. If you get one I'd try shoehorning a larger battery in to save being left walking/phoning for help.

I don't think you're taking into consideration how the level of Cunts that Ateco are.

you cannot compare cosmetic Falcon and Territory rust with entrenched structural rust on GWMs

Has anyone else noticed that every old crash test from way back when they trialled 60 and 80kph+ tests have all now been renamed "chinese" on youtube?

Yes, except it was an Opel not a commodore. People have been making these videos topical for some time now.

I deliver new cars to Dealers for lots of brands (thankfully GW isnt one of them)
But a few dealers i go to also sell them and the staff there happily told me they are a piece of shit.
The one Toyota dealer that i was speaking to about them (who sells GW and Cherry also....) said they have had to rebuild 3 motors already on GW's. Before they even sold them!!! New cars sitting ready for a buyer and need a motor rebuild.
Not since VT LS1's has there been such terrible quality control.
DO NOT BUY A FUCKING GREAT WALL!!

I wouldn't buy one but what evidence do you "rusty" mouths have on the subject?

I haven't seen a rusty Chinese car ever which surprises the hell out of me to be honest, maybe the steels they use are such shit quality it's a good thing in that they know they have to rustproof them very well.

Are they really that bad? Im going to be looking to purchase a new car soon and want a dual cab ute. Probably looking to spend <25k and at 23k for a brand new Great Wall it sounds ok on paper.

I know basically nothing about these so any advice is appreciated.

                          Thanks.
You're taking your chances on a hundred Chinese idiots putting your car together and the likely hood that they all did their job properly is nil.

Out ute at work suffers from harshness, one electric window has stopped working, idle wavers up and down annoyingly, shocking gear ratios (rev fuck out of second and die in 3rd or maybe 3rd to 4th I forgot), 80's driving feel with no feel to the clutch and rubber gearchange, uncomfortable seats and pedals ...

Just a 70's - 80's Toyota when they were still very much commercial vehicles. IMO you would be better off with a 50K Toyota/Mitsu/Izusu etc ...

It's been mentioned already, I say a secondhand d22 navara would be the better choice. Proven, docentented solutions to faults, parts readily available.

The poor depreciation on Great Wall that is likely to happen will make the better initial purchase price reason for consideration moot.

If you are buying on appearance they are the same body shape as Rodeo except for the front anyway.

100% not even looking at Great Wall - Thanks for the advice.

Will stick to looking at Rodeos or Navaras. Its just a shame these bigger utes use a fair amount of fuel. Im reluctant to go with a diesel mainly because of my lack of knowledge about them. Whats servicing etc. like? Do you just go to Nissan for a service, and what are costs like to service a diesel? (compared to petrol).

my old man has a d22 navara turbo diesel, its an excellent car he does a lot of driving and doesnt miss a beat. servicing is around $300ish (a bit less mostly) for an average service.
And actually its pretty quick for a diesel, ive driven it from newy to sydney a few times to pick up car parts etc and it wasnt bad.... definatly not the most comfortable but only coz its a single cab and i couldnt stretch out.
