Big difference between being inspired by the concept and being a blatant rip off. Is the GT40 a blatant rip off of a Ferrari?

Healy 3000, Triumph GT6 and any other 6cyl 2 door sports car (eg JZA80 Supra) have as much in common with the E Type's styling as the Datsun does.

At any rate, the Z is a much better proportioned car. E Type's upright screen and exaggerated roofline are a bit odd

That is because you picked the ugliest E-type of the lot, the 2+2. The 2+2 version of the Jap shitter isn't exactly a super model.

The 2 seaters looked slightly better.

However I agree the Zed is a much better looking car.

240Z is still the only serious, minimalist sports car the Japs have ever made. Serious excludes anything with less than 6 cylinders.

If they had been able to properly appreciate their own work and made a lightweight, more powerful version along the lines of the 911S/2.7 RS Porsches they would have had a true classic.

I can't tell the difference between the one I posted and the one Chase posted...

the only different looking one I can find is this - and its just a drawing, not a real car

which the 2 seater 240Z is clearly a blatant rip off / obvious copy of...

That's a drawing of a convertible with a removable hard top.

Being the Most Successful SCCA car in History id think they are a Classic with Huge Cred.
Remember in USA the origional 240Z 2 seat body went thru 3 updates, 240Z, 260Z and 280Z, By the time we got a 280Z it was the fat useless 280ZX.

fuck - is it? the point is its the only E type with a roof that non trainspotters would call different. The windscreen angle is the same on both models too.

If the Z is a blatant rip off, i wonder why there's no convertible - since most E types seem to be. You'd think they'd copy the most popular one.

more uncanny similarities with the E Type and its blatant rip off / obvious copy 240Z - If not for the Jag badge, I'd swear that was a Z...

                                They make my point.

The Germans were able to drop the weight and drag 10%, increase the power 10% and the torque more and improve the handling. They also created a classic that is worth as much as 10 of the best Z's

The Japs are still incapable of making a car lighter, simpler and more powerful.
