Oh and wheel wise the wantanbes are just too much (new). So I will probably just end up the superlites or rotas.
Rotas do look the goods. I know two people with Rotas who have had no problems. That being said, there are cases of Rotas breaking from stress. In the end its your money, you can pay a ridiculous amount for the real deal, you can be like me and wait to find a bargain set that may never appear, or you buy Rotas.

You may get lucky and find a triple carb setup for around $1,500. It will be alittle overkill on the L26 but you will always be able to resell them and if you go to an L28 they will also swap over. 38mm is ideal for future use, 35mm minimum. You can also spend around 2k on an ITB setup from EFI Hardware. I always wanted to go this route, as I used my Z as a daily.

Some cheap go faster tips are, MSD ignition, Mild Cam, A good Set of Headers and good carbs. My L28 made 160HP at the rears with this setup and it never felt lacking. You will be amazed the difference these 4 things will make.

That being said, i stand by my "buy an L28" line. Keep the l26 in the gaage, then you can always have the car with matching numbers. Find a l28 Block, get an e88 or N42 head (P90 if you ever plan to turbo), put in the above parts, get a light weight flywheel and away you go. You can spend thousands and thousands building a 400hp 3.1 stroker, or you can have an absolute ball in a 160hp L28 which will still have more than enough go for you.

Richard (260DET) will also have a wealth of info for you. Although he is very anti L-Series

Even better, I have a good E31 head. Bloody rare now in usable condition.

And I know people with cracked RS-Watanabes, but mostly I just dislike the Rotas because they look cheap. They nailed the TE37, Yayoi and Hayashi copies, but the 8 spoke things are rank.

Actually...The Rota Hayashi copies would look pretty good.

End of the day I personally think $1500+ tyres (which would get some nice 14-15" Japanese wheels) would be better money spent than $1k on copies.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe, and from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip-malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moments lost in time; gone like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die.

Leaning towards the Aussie made ones anyway. At least the money will stay in the country.

im on tokico illuminas and ground control coilovers. no rub at all and my fenders aren't rolled. i could go lower but it just wouldn't be practical for me.

Every boy and his dog has Superlites and lookalikes, check out the Rota range for something a bit different, please, please. As for the engine, decide what you want to do with the car first of all, eg for a weekend non track toy stock is pretty good. If you want to beat all these faggy PF Porsches around lately that can be done too

In that case I would get what you have running well, drive it a bit and see what you think. For a sports car, in good condition they are brilliant for their age, just keep the basic maintenance up and garage it as much as possible to keep Mr Rust and Mr Sun away.

That's a Scarab though. Still not worth anything near what they're asking.
