you can cut some small grooves around the r spec tyre to help with water...but I agree with Cal...standing water is always best avoided in a light car with r-spec tyres. Mine tried to spear off the road a couple of times and I parked it til the rained reduced and then I drove like a granny and NEVER went out in the wet again!

ffs I never expected them to perform LIKE the re55's but it's still a basis for comparison when it's what I had on the car before. These fucking things slide and screech at the slightest hint of pitching the car into a corner quickly.

if you think they are good I'd hate to see what you call bad. and they are not $200 a tyre at 255/40/17!!

I can't say I've ever found the limits of a KU36 on the road in the dry with my Caldina and that is only with 215/45/17s. During very spirited Mac Pass runs they just seem to progressively get stickier as they come up to temp. I actually don't mind a noisy tyre as it is a good indication of you are approaching the point in which it is going to start sliding. I'd rather that then some silent cunt of thing that just lets go without any warning.

Up to 110kmph depending on the section ie the open section at the top leading into Robertson Pie Shop. Didn't have any huge gripes with them at Wakefield either other then they went off a little quick.

scooby36 knows all about KU36's because he used them at Lakeside to do lap times most of us road car blokes can only dream about. Of course he knows how to drive, get the pressures right, etc.

[yes but r specs tend to have a lighter and thinner carcass than road tyres making them more of a risk (lot a near new a032 just from road testing round the block ) ]

you care about rocks hitting your underbody?

[Yep, the undersides of the guards especially as it can crack the paint on top. ]

                  Nvh is bullshit

[depends on how much or how far your drive or how loud your car is already. The droning noise of r specs is not fun, but is not necessarily a deal breaker either.]

Standing water with 90% of tyres is shit ... How many times do you drive through 100m of standing water compared to a puddle?

[The lack of grooves and shallow depth means you can suddenly lose traction. This is a risk on a racetrack where there is generally less to hit. It is more of a problem on the road when conditions are less predictable. A 1m 'stream' on a bend could be enough for a pucker moment, let alone worse.]

Fz's stone cold grip awesome, as do rsr

[this is probably tyre dependent and i've not driven on either of those. ]

Sitting in a garage? Get the fcuck out and drive your car

[i wish. It gets a weekly trip to work if i can be fucked. Otherwise is a garage ornament.]

The point of r comps are to not slide ... So why would you want to

[i have a light rwd car with sufficient hp to make it sliding it around entertaining. If there is no stopwatch involved, i go for slip over grip.]

I have the fz's on my wrx now, ... I wouldnt look back [glad you are happy with your choice]

Maybe your car is setup poorly or just doesn't work well with KU36 for some reason?

FFS KU36 is a fucking brilliant performance tyre for the money, nothing else anywhere near that pricerange comes remotely close. anyone who disagrees is a moron.

They have a very stiff sidewall for a street tyre which is great for heavier cars with good setup generating decent load. And enough staying power to do several decent laps on the track. Grip-wise they felt about on-par with R888 on my fagna (fuck R888 are shit on heavier cars?).... And there is no tyre screech until well past breaking traction (probably a bad thing for shitter drivers).

All that for 200 dorah or under....what the fuck is there to complain about.

Personally, I think KU36 is over-rated. They really aren't that cheap when you compare to buying decent tyres from Tirerack and to be honest... they really aren't that good.

Getting the pressures right for the track on a KU36? Set pump to 40psi cold. go drive. no?

I think all this crap about KU36s coming up to temp is bullshit. They are a road tyre ffs, they're good to go almost straight away.

Also, what the fuck is NVH?

                          I'm a moron because I don't like a set of tyres? right...

They sure as fuck aren't under $200 for my size, 255/40/17. try adding another $100.

What cars have you driven them on? Because on my car they grip fine in a straight line but they give no confidence at all on cornering. I've tried everything from 28-38psi cold. They were best at 34psi cold but still don't like them.

you've got half a point - you do have to be prepared to slide the car to go fast with KU36 on the track. But for the money, I can't imagine any tyre being faster. RSR's are a bit quicker and cost about the same now, but last half as long so in reality they cost twice as much as KU36 and work out to be as expensive as proper semis over the life of the tyre. The Yoko's and Toyos options are faster too, but cost as much as some semis, so they're all pointless IMO unless you're trying to win WTAC Clubsprint class. The only cost effective option for a street/track tyre is KU36. Who cares if they screech when pushing 10/10ths?

Price up a set of KU36's in a resonably large size then price the same size in AD08's on Tirerack. The AD08's are cheaper and offer far more grip.

Disagree in regards to coming up to temp. Had them on charade (A real performance car) and when pulling out of work, If I did a little skiddie on the way out of my parking spot, I'd be able to hit the brakes twice as hard and not lock up at the stop sign on the way home and if I just cruised on up there.

Noise, Vibration, Harshness. Not relevant in a Charade :D
