I was working at a high end vehicle importer some years back and being a rev head asked why we never imported the manual version. The statistician/marketing guru told me they had no market but to prove it they were bringing in 120 manuals to test that premise. In fact they were very hard to sell and we almost had to give them away for cost to get rid of them. Same thing here, people with money drive autos not manuals and you can bet that the companies are not producing manuals for that very reason.Originally posted by rj_astra View PostOther than the USA, the previous M5 was "auto" only. The current M5 is the same. There is no perceived market for a manual version of these highend v8s. I would also assume that there has been no R&D been spent in developing a box to handle the Nms produced by these new turbo engines.

it takes a market of 300 mil. and heavily subsidised pricing to sell an M5 manual it seemsOriginally posted by boxxx
Deutsche Bahn Rail: Trains are a great way to get lots of people concentrated into a small area, like a camp.
ACA/TT: Where's the line between a car enthusiast and hoon? There is none

Unsure of your meaning? A good auto/DCT/etc box will shift faster than any human can, and this is why pretty much every serious performance car manufacturer has done away with manuals entirely-including AMG.
EDIT:
OT, I think that looks excellent. Merc have really come into their own in styling in the last 3 years I think-they can pretty much do no wrong at the moment IMO. Also, the guy with the CLK63 Black Series in my building has just ordered one-I hope it's a different colour

And so this age-old debate begins anew.
And it will end as it always does-with the people who regard changing gears by clutch and stick as "fun" saying that they enjoy manuals more, and those who regard the ability to go as fast as possible as "fun" saying that they prefer auto/DCT/PDK/etc.
I've had sports cars with both, and in general I prefer a good non-clutch system. Depends on the car though-nothing worse than a rubbish auto-I'd rather have a manual any day. Any performance car of the last 8 years or so will be just fine though.

Mercs are all autos (i.e. uses a torque converter), most performance cars with DCT type gearboxes still have a clutch & flywheel arrangement. Mercs are more a GT car, hence the auto.Originally posted by XXX19XShitbreak is the epitome of perfection.
