As for karts, keep it simple and don't run anything except club meetings then it is about $500 per meeting. Entry fees, new tyres as karts are more sensitive to tyres than cars, fuel and a few dollars towards the motor rebuild. Get into the pointy end and karting is no cheaper than running an MX5, spare karts, motors, etc. If you start travelling you will definitely need a lock up trailer to keep stuff in overnight. As someone pointed out above, it is generally close and very hard racing, far more so than cars so be prepared because karting is a contact sport and payback is a bitch, rubbin' is racin'.
Are you mentally impaired? I said 'if it's affordable' and last time I looked there was all sorts of motorsport, some of which need not take up much time at all. Now off you go, back to the halfway house.

      lol all good you guys
no pics does not want me to sell MX5, she is a car nut herself and has done a few track days in the MX5.

Im looking to do it from a dollar point of view and so we dont struggle in the future with the kid and mortgage and cars.
Im doing MRA end of the month, no doubt I'll be like 'fuck that, keeping the 5!' hehe

If you lived down here I could get you a ride in a Leopard or Fireball at Picton. If you've never driven a proper kart you need to try it out, very different to a car.

Also consider getting a track bike instead. Pretty cheap, reliable, don't take much room, more fun than a car

i was impressed that once I got the hang of karting I could throw it around like a car, just that everything happens much much faster :D
Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

I like the idea of the endurance karting, you know a team of 2-4 drivers, with the twin 4 stroke engines. Pit stops the whole lot. Also being 4 stroke bound to be more cost effective than 2 strokes.

Bike racing for me would be a $600-700 a meeting, thats on a 400 and assuming I dont crash, which will happen if you dont fork out for tyres often enough. Ask me how I know!

only the straights, but those karts would be good on a better track.

Yep, I tried this a few times last year and really enjoyed it. Doesn't give you the adrenaline rush of driving at Bathurst or PI at the limit, but it's a shit load easier on the wallet. Did a couple of 8hr races and got approximately 2hrs of seat time per race for $250.

I'll continue to do this and pick up a co drive or two in the 1hr Prodsports series if I can this year.

finally got to the track on the weekend in my kart...

definitely knocked me around and made me realise just how unfit i am...

however ive got it as a toy and have no intensions of competitively racing it for the time being

but yeah just like a car with everything happening in fast forward...
