Cant go past a Ford. Reliable fuckers and if something does go wrong, parts are dirt cheap.

+1 for a AU/BA coon ute. For starters the supercab means you can actually have stuff in the cab, and the tray is bigger then on Commodore. Plus for some strange reason Falcons seems to be some what cheaper then similar year Commodores.
That and from I've been told Falcon utes seem to cope with rough roads better then Commodores, my sister goes to B&S balls and reckons apart from a few late model Commodores most utes are Falcons. She really regrets buying her VS, paid $6k for it and spent almost that much fixing it and still wouldn't trust it. Looked like the perfect chic's ute though, bottomless money pit.

the only AU i have any consistent experience is a mates, incidentally, AU on gas. maybe it's setup wrong and it's a pretty shagged family spec forte, but i'll just leave the worst insults out. except the interior looks like some fordco's designers first time on shrooms. reasons for collosal market failure etc.

all said and done, not that bad a design, rode well, comfortable, decent moto (when not wheezing down lpg. as above and only lpg car i've driven). and haven't been in an 8. they sound farkin swoit. but preferred aunties optioned VT. she kept it in perfect condition, but just preferred the VT over AU (sedans) i've experienced. dunnydore biased but will still say unless going sideways like a retard with an ls1 is your thing, the BA/F was a better car, especially for, you know, carting shit.

VUte a bit more $ anyway and VS really getting long in the tooth. mate's dad had one. when he got his license in 2000, still pretty new (current model) thrashed it a lot and great fun in the dry but absolutely fucking dangerous in the wet. likewise ok to sit in 12 years ago, falling apart in your hands in some cases by now. a good condition one is still a sprightly bit of good fun but there's not many of them and i remember a few pretty big near misses in the wet...

why no like the BA? for $6k, the few i've been in would pass as first rate comfort for that money. nicer inside than the base commonwhore of same vintage. generally a better car all round really. and the barra fairly gets up and goes too. day and night to the AU on gas mentioned above.

I work on AU/VT etc all the time and the I find the commodores feel very lose compared to a same year falcon.

AU onwards spec I6, slap a transmission cooler on it and they go forever.

from personal experience with a few 15+ year old commodores, heh, yep.

the exception being the really well maintained VT above. just didn't have any of the creaks or rattles or squeaks most of the other commodes i've had a bit older.

The thing that made my au awesome was 1. It was an au3.. One of thexlast of them, so the niggles were all sorted out and they changed the dash lights from grey orange to backlit lcd, and 2. It was a v8.

With my dads ba, the interior is so builf in around you i feel chlostrophobic almost. The au feels really airy inside. And the barra motor whilst has mors power and supposedly faster, its also more highly strung than my old 5l. It used to just lope along.. So understressed!

Mh dads ba is getting rather tired too.. Its only on 420,000km. Fucking weak if you ask me :D
so far its been through 11000 sets of pads and rotors, and a diff rebuild. Original auto, motor etc.. Even original waterpump lolz

The 3.6L V6 on the later models are really showing their age as well. If anything the 3.8L is doing a lot better.

What are falcon RTV utes going for these days. Good if you are carrying dirt bikes over crap roads as they had more clearance than the normal utes.
