245/17's are 300-330 a tyre fitted. I find that quite reasonable. And yes id say there are more expensive if not the same (within Aus) from other companys but the tyres are THE SHIT for the price. Will buy again.... locally... cause I'm impatient. :DOriginally posted by trent from punchy View PostHe said affordable.

RE11s seem to do better in most tests, they are about the same price as the AD08s from tirerack.www.markpakula.com

We dont generally do it if its a 20" rim, but motorsport stuff is no worries - we usually charge $25 a rim to strip, fit and balanceOriginally posted by womblesti View PostWhat's the go with tyre shops fitting personally imported tyres? Do they get shitty about it and charge a fortune?
I need to replace the tyres on my road bike soon and I can get a front and rear from the US for the price of a front here...
Best to just call around and ask in the local area

Oh yeah, it totally sucks to be a poor Aussie tyre retailer. Real battlers they are! We struggle to make $20-30/tyre on most sizes, and in some cases (common stuff, 175/70R13, 205/65R15, etc) even $10, whereas a shop will whack at least 80% markup on the tyre and sell it to you. Most new tyre distributors go bust after a few years because you simply cannot make a business profitable with such low margins.Originally posted by Boxer View PostThat sucks - was planning for my next set of hoops to come from tirerack. Hope its not the thin edge of the wedge and other tyre companies following suit.
Agree it would suck to be an Aussie retailer - however its up to them to collectively pressure the distributors in this country to get a better deal. Distribution in Australia seems to collectively rape the retailers
Actually, Yokohama do their own distribution in Australia, so this would be Yokohama (ie. the manufacturer) doing the ass-raping, not us.Originally posted by Mr Ed View PostAust distributors are always pushing for this bullshit, its hardly news. Just freight forward the shit.
Fuck the cunts.
Yup, we're the bad guys...
Honestly, good on Yokohama!

but as a wholesaler, you supply say 100 retail outlets, if each of those outlets averaged 10 sets of tyres per week, 5 of your brand and 5 from another wholesaler, they have to live on sales of those 40 tyres X $80- $3200, you get 100 outlets x 5 sets of tyres, so 2000 tyres X $20 = $40,000 gee that is tough...Originally posted by adviliax View PostOh yeah, it totally sucks to be a poor Aussie tyre retailer. Personally, if I was a local retailer and was buying tyres from a distributor which I had to sell for $2500 a set to make $30 a tyre when I know for a fact companies in the US are selling the same tyre for $1200 yet still turning a profit I'd be asking them "What the fuck?" If they didn't want to play ball I'd get onto tirerack which welcomes trade enquires then start bringing in containers of the most popular sizes. Imagine the pirce you could get buying hundreds of tyres at a time through tirerack. Then sell them for a couple hundred less than the RRP in Australia and you'd be making more like $600 a set on the bigger sizes.Randy De Puniet has had more crashes than any other rider in the history of Grand Prix motorcycle racing.
