    The leaf sprung are definitely more popular than Jimnys, the leafs flex quite well with minimal mods, stronger CVs, there's a lot more parts and aftermarket support available.

      The radius arms are rediculously short so it gets bugger all wheel travel.
      The shock is mounted inside the coil (like a coilover), except they're seperate, so the coil fouls on the shock easily.
      The diffs weren't strengthed that well so they tear mounts off.
      The chain driven transfer case in them doesn't accept the crawler gears that the earlier leaf sprung ones can use.
      The chassis is different enough that a ton of aftermarket bars and steps don't fit properly.

      That's a few of the issues.

        on the same token, whats needed to make a old leaf sprung hilux flex and not shit itself over every little bump? or is that how they are? do people put in softer leaves and stuff?

            put 97 - 2004 hilux rear leafs in with extended shackles. invert the rear shocks, and put a stock set of rear springs up fron twith a dropeed hanger and move the froint diff forward, put some shock hoops in with soem 12 inch bilstiens and wala!

                anymore detail? build threads etc? my brother has a 86 xtra cab with 35's - first it needs a new donk (i want to build a 22re-t28r for it to replace the fucked 4y) then the suspension needs sorting cause it literally puts every little bump into the cab and I'll really doubt that it will be any good offroad. It will be getting 33's when the current BFG MTs wear out. I know it wont be as comfy as my Disco but it is like driving a Massey at the moment!

                  Spot on. Shitloads of hilux's run this setup because it works so well.

                  da9jeff- Search for 'IFS rears up front hilux' on outerlimits4x4.com, there should be shitloads of info on it.

                  http://www.budscustoms.com.au/ sells all the dropped hangers and shock hoops to suit.

                    heres a hilux a kid from my trade school bought. flexes okish but far from good.

                    goes anywhere with the tyres and lockers though despite his obvious lack of ability.

                    i think its got 2" springs, 2" body lift, 60 series diffs, front and rear lockers, fuck noes what size tyres etc.. and a 1KZ conversion

                    its for sale actually, so if anyones interested, ill give you his contact number and lowball that FUCK outta the little twat.
