yes, and in my limited experience with mazda SUVs (7s and 9s) they have poor quality control interior wise.

i actually parked my no pics mazda 2 next to a duelis today and compared them. they are no bigger externally than her car, apart from the jacked up softroader position. and being designed to take an AWD system, i reckon it would probably be smaller inside than the 2.

I dont dislike...or like the Dualis particulary.

But surely something like the upcoming Kia Rio Turbo would be priced similarly and offer much more driving pleasure (ok that felt strange saying that about a Kia!)

The engine in question is the 1.6-litre GDI turbo petrol which will be nearly identical to that found in the upcoming Hyundai Veloster Turbo. In Hyundai configuration it’s expected to produce 155kW of power and 265Nm of torque.

The dualis is bigger than a Mazda 2. Its 10cm wider, 40cm longer. Wheelbase is 15cm longer.

Between the Micra and Dualis there's quite a difference size wise inside, and I'd imagine that a Micra and Mazda2 would be fairly similar?

Isn't a Dualis baesd on a Tiida, which is next-size-up from Micra?
Dunno how Micra & Tiida compare to Mazda2, but I'd have expected Dualis to be Tiida sized?
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

ASX is almost stupidly small inside really. Felt smaller then a Lancer Sportback, we looked at one to replace the Colt.
Dualis comes in short and long, 7 seater!, versions.
FWD Rav4 is under $30k iirc, bloody huge inside compared the rest of the class and Toyota resale and "quality" would mean something long term.

Actually, does it have to be new? Can pickup a 2 year old Rav4 for just over $20k.

Kia Sportage for sure. Has won plenty of awards etc and ive delivered heaps of Dualis and Sportage and thats where my money would be going.
The whole Kia range has come a long way in the last few years.

I can't believe I'm saying this but take a Hyundai Elantra for a test drive. 8 Year warranty, 6 airbags, all the gizmos, 5.5l/100k, $21000 drive away. Just bought one for the missus, she's very happy with it.

All asian cars are boring as bat shit to drive, and I have driven most of them.

I find a Holden Rodeo does it for me more than most asian cars!

Has there been any reports on how much this is likely to be?

Kias haven't been all that cheap recently, and the n/a version is about $20k innit?
However they won't be silly enough to try & tackle a Polo GTI, so I'd be surprised if it's more than $25k; which will probably be a bit overpriced, so will come down after they don't sell as many as they'd like after a year or so.

So probably end up being fairly close in price to a Fabia RS when they lob here.

Except the current Fabia seems to only be about $500 less than a Polo, unless you buy $500 in options to bring it up to the same spec as the equivalently-engined Polo ... dunno, I reckon Fabia RS will only be $1k less than Polo GTI. Maybe 5dr Fabia for 3dr Polo price (so $1500 cheaper) at best.

I think his point was that Asian cars are boring, proof of the pudding being that he finds commercial-vehicle shitboxes (because they are all shitboxes) more interesting.
And I can see his point, although I think for me it comes down to what's most common on the roads more than anything to do with driving-characteristics. Something that's more interesting, to me, is quite probably less reliable & probably has WAY poorer performance for anything near the same money (eg. most of what European manufacturers sell being massively less reliable - yet if the hip-pocket weren't an isue I'd be happier in a 3yo Megane bum-car than a 3yo Mazda3).
