I think this comes down to chicks. They seem to like the higher driving position and don't like Commodore/Falcons. Therefore families buy c-SUVs rather than wagons.

85c per litre at my local servo last night. Sure beats $1.50 for ULP 91 that V6 Commodores run on.

Compared to what? A 1500kg+ compact SUV powered by a 200Nm 2L engine? Just get a 3.6 Commodore.

Correct, when a chick is driving in and out of shops, getting kids in and out of the car, having a big ass commodore isn't ideal + more chance of bumps and scrapes on the car, parking problems etc etc

I was going to say a 4l falcon wagon.. But they longer exsist, thankyou to the fags at ford for that. I im guessing the commo wagons nearest rival is a territoryish?

Evil weevel said he wanted to tow a race car with one which is why i said the above. why the fuck would you do that to yourself. If hes going to tow a car hes obviously not the the market for a 2l gerlytruck suv

I tow my MX5 with my berlina V6 sedan at the moment. the old 3.8 does seem quite torquey compared to the 3.6 when I used to use the work wagon

but yeah, true about the chicks point of view etc

                    ah well.
I'll just get navara diesel/colorado diesel and she can keep i30
                    win for me.

This is one of the attractions of the LPG Commodore - it's based on the 3.6 litre engine so you get more torque (but not as much as the 3.6 petrol I think).

My ideal family car purchase for next time (bearing in mind I do about 30k a year - lots of freeway km plus running around Canberra) would be a roomy wagon with low running costs (LPG or diesel). It's not much fun but then again neither is a freeway trip to Sydney so it hardly matters whether that's done in an SS or an SV6 wagon.

(Serious question - can someone give me reasons why this would not be a winner? Seriously thinking this would suit my family's commuting needs perfectly).
Because the Commodore wagon boot isn't that big and if it's straight gas finding somewhere that sells LPG in some areas is still hit and miss. For similar money I'd look at a Mondeo or Skoda Superb diesel, it's a family wagon who gives a shit about fun.
And before anyone calls BS on the Commodore boot being small, my bloody dog doesn't fit in one! We tried him in the BIL's VE wagon. Floor is too short and the roof line even shorter.
All that said, in an ideal world I'd shove nopics into what ever diesel people mover is the best, either the VW or the new Merc, and grab an SS wagon for myself.
