Limit will be slashed by 10km/h
THE speed limit along a 5.4km stretch of Epping Rd will be slashed by 10km/h to 70km/h, although no date for the change has been set.
The reduction from 80km/h between Pembroke St, Epping, and Pittwater Rd, North Ryde, comes after a review of speed zones across the state, according to Ryde state Liberal MP Victor Dominello.
“The review determined a change on Epping Rd,” Mr Dominello said.
“The high number of crashes along this length of road, along with the lack of a central barrier, the surrounding land and residences have predicated this change.”
In the audit of speed zones review it was also noted that the recommendation to drop the limit by 10km/h was also based on the “significant pedestrian generators” such as bus stops servicing Epping Boys High School, Macquarie University and Macquarie Centre.
Bus lanes were introduced on both sides of Epping Rd for a large part of the 5.4km in question.
“This is not about whether speed limits will be increased or decreased, this is about ensuring safety of road users is paramount,” Mr Dominello said.
