I've had lots of practice at it.... I've now had eleven (yes that's not a typo!) separate roll-overs in competition and I'm pleased to say that I've never grabbed for the roof. I know this sounds weird, but when we are going in I know that there's nothing I can do about it so I just relax into it and tuck my elbows in. As an aside, it scares the hell out of me watching other people rally with the side windows down. I'd hate to see the result if a crew member put their hand out the window to "stop" the car from rolling over.
The co-driver in the Mustang looked to be in shock to me after the crash. Check out how long it takes him to get his glasses and the big breaths he's sucking in.Can I wear the Scream mask? The mask from Scream... when I do you from behind...

On both roll overs I've had (one as a driver and once as a nav) I didn't reach for the roof, I just hung on to the steering wheel or the notes. Needless to say, the notes didn't provide much support, but hey at least I was still on the notes when we stopped rolling :p. not that it was much use obviously :p
Fook.

Congrats to John Siddens in the 240Z for coming second in Classic Outright and first in Early Classic, beaten only by Broadbent's 911 Carrera in CO, with another 240Z fourth in CO.

I hear what you are saying, but I tended to launch my evo pretty solidly on each stage. (not enough to kill it) I reckon there might be a second or so in it. 30 odd stages. 30 odd seconds.. Easy way to make time if you asked me. Could be the difference between a couple of places... Although if you kill the car and DNF there is no point. Gotta be sure your car can withstand it and do it with some sympathy. Once the field has gapped and your place is established (if it gaps) thats a good time to show a little more sympathy.Originally posted by bigmuz View PostNot referring to coffin's mate but I find it funny that so many blokes do redline clutch dumps off the start line in a 600 competitive kilometre event.
The ten seconds you save won't make any fucking difference.

There's a difference between launching hard and leaving in a cloud of smoke which I notice a number of guys do. It seems to be the same guys who also spend most of the time very sideways especially when spectators/cameras are around then have a sook about the tyre issues/loosing time.Originally posted by darkside View PostI hear what you are saying, but I tended to launch my evo pretty solidly on each stage. Sure it looks good from the outside, but is it really worth it if you're trying too actually win?

Am keen, but alas no chance of getting away with my mum arriving the following w/end and a trip to Hay needed next month to drop off a horse (don't ask)...Originally posted by Coffin View PostWe never really launched from the line, its not needed, but some do.
Looks like we are doing the Snowy River Sprint in 5 weeks at Lakes Entrance. ... Rowds/Ed/Rorge, weekend away paid for as service crew if you are keen

As others mentioned, those looking for a result do smart things like nurse the cars around stages like longford with very easy base times, and i guess drive with sympathy to tyres and drivetrain. Some others light the tyres up for the crowd on the spectator stages and beat shit through their tyres and driveline. I guess those in the crowd that dont understand it must think other than the tyre smokers, that we are a bunch of pussies.
