Datto carby options
-
Stromberg CDs off a Triumph or Volvo(?) are another option. Some people actually preferred them over the SUs, unless outright power was important I guess. Yes the diaphragms fail but that usually just means they loose shape and throttle response "may" suffer. Mine were completely shagged but suprisingly never had issues, except I bent a needle and found needles in my carbs were from a Volvo for some reason. Piss easy to tune as well, won't say the car was powerful or economical though. It was a 2000 auto and was my first car.

well I found a set of 240Z/early 260Z round top carbs with no emissions crap, and a complete inlet manifold bolted to them. They're heavily gunked up and in pretty poor condition but with a good kero bath and liberal application of carby cleaner i'm hoping they come up well enough to rebuild and re-use. I've found a bucketload of info online about how to build them and which kits to buy, so I'll give that a crack I think. The throttle shafts have no appreciable play but I haven't tried squirting WD40 onto them to see if it leaks through yet. They came with a 240Z air cleaner housing thingo so I'm hoping all I need is an air filter, some new fittings (current ones are a bit corroded) and a rebuild kit and they will go on in the next few weeks.
Thanks for all the help lads - I hope I can get these going otherwise there's a 32/36 kit coming my way from the states pretty soon!I am a Spinal and Sports Physio based in Flemington, Melbourne. Insane discounts for PF members!

I've run a 32\36dgev on my A14, now running a 38dges and it was heaps nicer, fuel consumption wasn't comparably different as you need less throttle to achieve cruise. 38 Jetting sizes for a 2.6l 6cyl would be (weber manual doesn't list any 6's with 32\36)
Choke size: 27
Auxiliary venturi: 4.00
Main jet: 1.45
Idle Jet: 0.50
Air idle jet: 2.00
Emulsion tube: F50
Air corrector jet: 1.75
Accelerator pump jet: 0.60
Accelerator pump back bleed: 0.30
Needle valve: 2.50

well the rebuild kit for the old hitachi nugget turned up today (it was 40 bucks so i'm going to strip it and rebuild it for kicks) and it's the wrong model - it's for a DAF328. Might be interchangeable - going to email the seller now about that.
Luckily I rang around this morning and found a supplier for the SU carb rebuild kits out in tullamarine - so going to duck out there this afternoon and grab a pair!I am a Spinal and Sports Physio based in Flemington, Melbourne. Insane discounts for PF members!

yep wilson's carbs - just got back with two rebuild kits. They stung me on the price a bit but these are the best brand ones - NOS apparently. The boxes look a hundred years old but the gaskets inside are nice. They also had the proper 20W damper oil on the shelf there so i got a bottle of that too.
Now I can rebuild the bastards (soaking in a kero bath at home at the moment) and hopefully chuck them on this weekend if all goes to plan. Which it won't.
