It's not much of a secret that the P38s are rubbish. Even fitters at LR UK get labelled as crazy for owning them when parts are free. BMW fucked that right up

boss has one, has travelled across the desert a few times in it. no major issues except cracking the rims, and at 3600 a corner to replace it starts to sting.

he has some aftermarket 18s now for offroading.
        Interesting quote

It was from that era LOL!

Range Rover Sport = Discovery with a pretty body.
            Not a real Range Rover.

P38 is pre BMW. The 99 model was when BMW changed the electrics from the dark lord to Bosch. Also fixed the slipping liner issue. I liked my P38, it just used too much petrol. Actually, I mainly liked playing with the air suspension
I'm not straight outta Compton, I'm straight out the trailer.

RR and LR are engineered by the same people at the same place- It is just a brand split based on premiumness. Believe it or not the Disco platform is not made of match sticks and paper mache. They can (and do) fit diferent chassis components, trim, switchgear, tech packs, accoustic glass etc to get it to fit the RR marque. The Disco platform was used because it was too difficult to hit the RRS targets with the RR platform and it was not cost effective.
If it makes you feel better the new RR and RRS are based on the same platform.

BMW came in just before the P38A was to hit the market so they played a big hand in the product over the 8 years it was selling.

Mates dad has an 2011. Its pimp. Goes well with the blower. Sucks fuel harder than Paris Hilton does at being a DJ.

When my work buddy had the blower version it was doing a pretty consistant 19l/100km around town. He now has the oil buner and gets 11 ish around town and down to 8 on a trip to the snow.

-Ok Electric hanbrake units go. Very common. 1200 for part. Comes complete with cables. Have seen from 30k upwards.
-Alternators go often. Youngest so far is from 45k. Cheap part and usually get an original item. 380 bux from trivett.
-Front control arm bushes go as car weighs a bomb. I used to do just the bushes at first but now complete arms are alot cheaper than what they once were.
-Have replaced a couple or air pumps for the suspension. Motor burns out and pops fuse.

The rest is generally ok. I would also suggest buying 1-2 year old example with some form of factory warranty. Flick it after another two years.

They chew brakes also. Have done brake pad replacements with less than 15k on the clock.

Most of the potential problems have been covered here. I'd have one any day but out of my price bracket at the moment. I have an older L322 Rangie for the nopics and love it. I notice you're in Melbourne so if do get serious pm me and I can tee up a drive for you and if your looking to buy new I can sort decent discounts. If you end up going second hand I can sort parts at the right price.

Been driving an Evoque around for the last week, 50,000Kms - auto annoyingly slips on a few changes but this morning I booted it while turning at an intersection and an amazingly loud noise from (I believe) the front CV's - sounded like doing a U turn in a 300,000km old front wheel drive car with totally fucked CV's.

I gotta say it hauls ass, everyone of it's 240 horses has bloody big balls, much bigger than the 250 horses of the Subaru Tribca I was driving around last week.
