Well they could but why would either of them want to develop an engine that makes the same power, render their existing engine pool useless and make little difference in the end except cost the a bunch of cash..

If this does happen for next year someone will probably have the job of embossing Ford pushrod V8 valve covers with AMG logos.

It would probably cost 10 or 20 million and take at least 12 months for AMG to deveolop a worlds best engine from, presumably, the existing M152 direct injection V8 (but with port injection) that could run competitively against the local 2 valve units.

They do already have a control ecu and have for a long time. Next year the control ecu is the new Motec M190 which is a very powerful unit, makes the M8xx look like a pocket calculator.

There is previsions in the wiring harness drawings for a torque sensor and the cars were also supposed to be drive-by-wire but the DBW has been delayed till 2014 on cost/time constraints.

It has taken all the teams about 6~8 years to get the engines where they are, to think that a new manufacturer is going to step in and be on par (even with 4 valves) in less than 6 months is pretty silly.

It can't / wont happen in 2013, they've run out of time. Even the Nissan guys have been pushing the boundaries. Parity testing takes a lot to organise and the Nissan still isn't done, but will be, just.

The deal will have support from AMG and Merc HQ, Merc Aust just don't want to have to pay anything so no official "factory" support.

Australia is just an Agent for Merc, and they have their noses so far up their arts, they do not want to be associated with the Bogan masses. Really, seams the majority of cashed up retirees has come from the bogan masses, and are now buying your cars. Get your product out to the masses, and you might be able to afford 2 "big" flats or one big boat in Monte Carlo.

If support is from Head Office and associated with AMG, then would it not be an AMG Mercedes team.
And, if Erebus have the contract to provide motorsport services for AMG Mercedes and SBR has the endorsement and support, then it would be a factory endorsed team, just not a Mercedes Australia factory team.
