i like the variety of half arsedness from manufacturers from LHD to RHD
VW in the 1960s making cars in australia had everything in the right spot for RHD
VW in the 1990s importing cars CBF changing anything apart from the pedals and steering wheel
Mercedes Benz in the 1970s with starter motors taking up most of the drivers side footwell on RHD (obviously the passengers footroom on LHD)
Fun Fact: Bentley Continentals have the indicator stalk on the German side
about 2000 model C class merc had indicator and wiper on the same stalk... on the left hand side of course.
Every time I get in a car that seems different to what I am driving at the moment (euro lefty at present), I default to the left as it seems like euro. If I get in an old jap car, I go straight to the right.
Merc and Chrysler shared alot of things, very few of them good. The Voyager was the same, with the column shifter on the right.
The actual car in the article above was one of my wedding cars (for the bridesmaids) - awesome, quirky car.
And don't forget it took Citroen until the 1990s before they figured out that they should do self canceling indicators. With that sort of history mine is suprisingly normal-ish. Blinkers and headlights on left stalk, wipers on right stalk, gear switch top right of the column, gear shift flaps behind the hub and a face full of switches around the airbag. Which doesn't move.
As for the up!, saw a couple of them running around the other day, keenly priced on the road and looks fairly good.
As a right handed person i much prefer the indicators on the LHS of the column.
I text with my right hand, and if i want to change lanes whilst texting i can do both without interuption.
If the indicator stalk is on the RHS i have to take my left hand off the wheel and awkwardly try and operate the stalk with that hand, which i think we all agree is down right dangerous
1978 Opel Manta SR Berlinetta 1UZFE
2013 Opel Insignia OPC
2013 Kia Rio
2018 LDV T60

Lol, I've usually got my coffee mug in my left hand. And rest my elbow on the windowsill.
Drive an Up! before you get too excited.
I know you dont expect it to be even remotely quick but the lack of bottom end torque is pretty annoying.
The 3 cylinder Micra has way more even though there both 55 KW. That extra 198 cc makes a difference.
Hill starts in an Up! with a few adults aboard would give you a lovely aroma of clutch in the car.
They had a bunch of these out in the mall in Brissy yesterday. They looked pretty nice quality wise for cheap little runabout. Checked out a metallic bluey grey coloured one and it was nice in terms of the finish on the outside. Usual cheap small car inside although not as plasticky looking as some but you'd really have to live with it a while to see how it fared. Still would never own one. :p

Nopics' Colt is bad enough with it's 1.5, anything smaller would be damn near dangerous! Hell the Rav struggled with the hills in Hobart!

I've noticed you can really tell how they cut corners with the smaller class cars compared to their larger stable mates. The Colt's plastics feel abit cheaper and nastier then those in a Triton or Pajero, and on a different plant compared to the Verada, while the paint is shit. I've never had a car with such shit paint.
VW was the same, the Polo was noticeably cheaper feeling then the Golf and especially the Passat, talking 2003 here. Same level of engineering just the touchy feely bits weren't as nice. Toyota is more consistent, everything feels cheap until you get to the Land Cruiser by which time it feels "cheap" compared to it's rivals!
Yeh but these are just plain gay. :p I own the one I have because at the time of buying I was severely broken after pitting me and my motorbike against an 18 wheeler. I did turbo an N15 Pulsar once though so you can call me bi-FWD. :p
i think these cars are designed for holland or rome where everything is flat and teh parking is fucked
strange about the 1 litre because 5th gear did a test of the ecoboost 1 litre in a Focus which would be at least 1,25 ton and it did 0-100 in 10 secs!
what a difference 32 psi does

Yeah commodore boot releases were in glovebox.....although i never thought was weird back when we had a new VC Commodore?
Could have sworn bonnet release was drivers footwell though?
yeah that was so you could lock your wife in the boot, and then lock the glovebox, and then no one could get the bitch out unless they had the key. good feature. especially popular down in adelaide.
