I'll buy the straight XD if the price is right altough I don't like the XD rear end, the XE's had a watts link, much better
No, the XD has the better rear suspension. The upper trailing arms on the XE are way too short. This causes problems if a wheel hits a bump and with body roll, as the short arc pulls the wheel forward and makes the rear of the car steer. If you read articles of the period, when the XE Falcon was first raced most drivers parked their cars and refused to race them as they had such evil handling. If you look under a Group C XE Falcon, it's not uncommon to see leaf springs. The Group C cars that are running trailing arms are nothing like a standard XE Falcon. Dick Johnson's XE Falcon is a good example of this and there was a good write up about it in Australian Musclecar a few years back.
Are you optimistic or pessimistic about the end of the world?

I doubt Aussie has much effect ... I think just because old car.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Your average Camry these days probably has more fasts than a V8 (especially if only 302) and would handle and stop better and also get much better fuel economy. XD would be ok for towing I guess. Why do you want to buy this car?

"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

Compare the price of Falcon GTs compared to US muscle ie Mustangs, Torinos, Galaxies etc etc. The US stuff is better value for money in Australia.

Buy it, skid it, trash the rear quarters and then send it to scrap. That way if they ever become valuable you can tell your grandchildren about 'the one you had back in the day'

if you grew up with them, then there is a good chance you think they are cool. Plus group c bodykit looks horn.

Remember seeing that and hearing "he's gone off into a tree".

First thought. He's dead. Fucking lucky boy to get out of that in one piece.

We're talking about non-collectible models though. Is a 3.6L base auto XT worth any more than a generic Alfa or Triumph or Lancia or Citroen sedan of the same age, if they're all in really good condition?

The fastest (stock) 351 XD's did low 15s quarters ... Aurion would smash one, and in fact isn't as for off a 351 GTHO as the 351 GTHO owner would hope.

That's what happens when you have cars of similar weight and power except the Aurion has 2 more forward gears and is thirty years newer.

351C in XD's day was only 150kW; I'd bet an XD has 3/4 the weight of an Aurion as well as 3/4 the power.

+1 and go 30 years before the XD - ie 1949 - and surprise surprise the XD would shit all over a ...a... ford customline sidevalve V8,

amazing what the march of technology can do..

Aurion is 204kw and 1609kg, they do 80-120 in about 4.6s. Cunts.
