1.8 is a Family One, but whatever. It's an old engine unsuited to that application. The old diesel was lag city, not sure if the new one is better (have read that it is). Haven't driven the turbo 1.4 but doesn't seem quick on paper.

But all of these were issues before, and don't explain a sudden drop in sales. It's a good car otherwise (for its class, not for PF I mean).

The petrols share too many parts with mid 90's Daewoo's to be any decent. I think they look ok and the interior isnt an entirely bad place to sit but like someone else said, its probably the Camira of this century.

The turbo has slightly less power than the base model 1.8

This combined with turbo lag makes for a "fun" drive.

Hope it's not the Camira of this century.

Just bought a 1.4 turbo one back in May to replace an 07 SS. Pretty happy with it truth be told. Did three trips out to Moree and back late June / early July + daily running around so have about 8,000 k's on it now.

Obviously a BIG step down from a 6 litre full size sedan, but meh, does the job for what I and the nopics need at the moment.

Got my tonner (when I put it back together) for when I want noisy fasts...

slightly off topic but slightly related (retarded?)

does anyone know what the go is with astra`s coming back to aus wearing opel badges? i noticed an ad on tv the other day saying the astra is back, and opel is back after x many years away from aus etc etc

curious if government motors had sold the opel brand to mahatma and his indian mates or to the chinese and trying to sneak one past joe public by using an established name or some such
            .

Nope, GM still owns Opel. They've just decided they can sell Opel here as well as Holden, now that Holden only sells Daewoos and Commodores.

As for Cruze ... average car, Holden did it no good by very obviously selling rebadged Daewoos previously; and people in Oz buying cars of this size want hatches & Cruze hatch looks pretty sad.

              Torque is the issue.
That's why the 1.4T has better performance, uses less fuel & is less effort to drive than the 1.8 n/a.

I am interested to see the breakdown in Cruze sales. Seem to see alot of high spec models (SRIV CDX etc) rather than the povo spec CD.
ON the other hand all you seem to see are Mazda 3 Neo on the road.

The Cruze 1.8 auto is an awful, awful car. Even the most pedestrian of drivers will realise this. Yes, when the cruise control self disengages due to the speed dropping too far it isn't good enough. Which means the only models worth actually considering are up market.

i fucking hate my cruze (new one)
                    uses 1 to 1.5l oil every 10,000km's
                    pings on start up
has constatly been back for warrentee jobs
the interior plastics are fading to different color grays ( doors are now lighter then dash)
gutless as a motherfucker so constantly have foot flat to the floor ( i got taken by a god damn starlet "life")
due to this it uses more fuel then but 2.5t bt-50
the lights turn on as soon as you go near a shadow and go through around 6 bulbs in 6 months.
they are one of the most expensive cars to insure (ask damo)
These POS deserve a firery death

60TJZ, 1.4T or 1.8i or one of the diesels?

Cousins husband just bought a manual turbo diesel sedan - leather etc for a touch over 30k. Only drove it a grand total of about 20kms but seemed ok if a little boring ? Apparently the fuel economy is stupidly good, would be a great daily in my opinion...

                              Worst diesel ever

No torque down low at all, no idea how they managed that. Driving the Focus diesel blows you away after (lulz).

Rode in one once, gave off a real "el cheapo rental car" vibe, with lots of rough edges to the refinement etc
