I rented one of the fine US-Spec ones and though it was fine. Much better than the thing it replaced (Pontiac G6), but not as nice as an Altima. I need to buy a new car for the nopics, but she wants a hatch and no way I'm buying that Cruze variant.

The interior is gaids, it feels like a Daewoo. Not even in the same ballpark as 3/focus/golf. Even a Hyundai i30 feels nicer.

A bit gutless? The 1.8 is downright dangerous it is so underpowered.

The diesel however is the one to get, the current tdi is about 360nm, twice that of the shit petrol engine with only 150kg more weight.

Could it be that everyone who thinks a Daewoo is a Holden has already bought one?

New i30 takes a dump on Cruze from a great height.
Can get a base Golf for $20990 drive away at the moment so not sure why any cruzes are being sold at all.

generally terrible cars imo... fairly plasticy and a bit dull..

but that said, they've gotten better... I had one as a rental when in brisbane for work a few years ago, and it was absolute RUBBISH... shittest auto gearbox on any small car I've ever driven (except maybe an 08 lancer I had as a rental), gutless, and just generally cheap plasticy shit.. was sloppy and awful..

had one a few months ago when in the barossa with nopics, and comparitively, it hauled... it was an "upgrade" from the manual 3 door getz that I actually booked, and I would still have preferred the getz, but compared to the older one, it was FAR more capable. Not sure what has changed, but I almost enjoyed it, and kinda want to try one of the 1.4Turbo ones..

Still wouldn't say I liked it though. Not even close

you can always hear them when they break and they stop the engine immediately so you can't do any more damage.

Hmm. Interesting comments. Clueless guy at work was saying he was thinking of getting one because "it looks like an Audi".

Can't be any worse than a Viva.

Had one as a rental, worst car I had ever driven. Seriously, my $150 '74 Corona rode and steered better.

Mum looked at one to replace her Astra, the only positive thing she had to say was that she liked the colour of the one she looked at! Dealer attitude didn't help either.

I rented one in Brisbane (Oz built 1.8 CDX - so leather etc) as an upgrade. I personally didn't find it too bad. Even went ok up Mt Mee (force auto gearbox to stay in correct gear). Like any underpowered auto car you have to keep momentum up and avoid large throttle changes - otherwise you will get a hyperactive auto.

It would make an ok A to B car. Its certain quieter when cruising on highway than a Mazda 3.

Problem (?) with the Focus diesel is that its DSG (or the Ford version) only.

Updated cruze.... 1.6T (132kw/230NM) for 22,500. 0-100 8.4sec. Not bad figures at that price point,

Interesting ... what are Opel asking for the Astra with that engine (as top-of-the-range here)?
                                Fair whack more innit?
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.
